Hey, I'm a varsity goalkeeper heading to WUSTL next year, and I'm still deciding between trying out for varsity level or sticking with club. If anybody has any knowledge about the level of skill and commitment required to participate in varsity level soccer, or any other advice based on your experiences, that would be appreciated. If you have no clue, but like soccer as well, feel free to PM me.

Great question! S also loves soccer and was varsity player for a small school but with strong soccer program. I understand that WUSTL sports are D3 and therefore there are no athletic scholarships or students recruited to play a sport - is this correct?
I also hear that WU is a strong D3 and so level is high. I think S is going to play it by ear and either try varsity or do club. We have not heard from anyone yet regarding this - I am wondering if students who are projected to play are contacted at some point and if yes then when?

@Dad2011_Ohio - It’s correct that there’s no athletic scholarships, but I’m sure there’s plenty of recruiting going on - just not at the same level as the D1 schools. I’m anticipating the level being pretty high, but how high? I’m not sure. I think I may just end up trying out for the team regardless, and then judge my options from there.

Ryan, but when you get there end of August, it would probably be too late to try out for the fall season?

I know nothing about soccer, but I do know my friend was basically recruited for swimming, so WashU DOES recruit, just not the way D1 schools do.
