Why is soccer not popular here in america? All we seem to care abut is basketball, football, and baseball. i havent always been a fan of soccer but i grew to love and learn it becasue it's a HUGE deal at prep schools in the south. Why do other countries embrace soccer while America puts it on the back burner?

it's because america sucks at soccer.
basketball- NBA
baseball- well...invented it. tho they lost at the wbc.
football- well..superball...-_-ll

n soccer? did we see the same game? they suck. like ****.

I was thinkin about this the other day. Its a cruel paradox ain't it:

America can't be good at soccer unless soccer is popular, as the athletic talent will play other sports BUT soccer won't be popular in America until America are good at it as Americans only watch sports they are good at.

Hopefully Freddy Adu will mature into the superstar he is supposed to be to generate some interest in the sport, but I'm not too optimistic tbh

Soccer does not fit well into American advertising systems. Every other dominate sport has altered it's play to incorporate TV advertising. If soccer were more advertising friendly (stopages), it would get more support.

When you watch a game (any type) next time, look at how many comerical opportunities present themselves.

I know... like no one plays soccer here lol.

I LOVE SOCCER.

My friends think it's a "wimpy sport."

I'm like... yeah ok. lol

Soccer is for fruits.

^ for a second there i was thinking of apples and bananas and peaches and melons and grapes and papayas and mangoes and starfruits and dragonfruits.

because soccer is boring as hell.

It's not like it's as boring as golf...

Ugh.. I can't stand watching golf.

I like playing mini golf though. :)

Its not like its as boring as baseball

baseball is so fun to watch when youre at the stadium.

theyre both boring on the tv.

association football is much more entertaining to watch both on TV and live at the stadium...I've lived in the states for a few years and been to many baseball matches including yankees v. red sox, and a few world series matches (last 3 yearsA) and none of them have compared at all to being at a live football match...even if it's a regular season match between two average teams (except MLS which I've only been to one game and it was probably the most boring crowd, terrible quality of football, etc.). Don't get me wrong I enjoy baseball on occasion but it can't compare to being at a live football match. The only athletic events that I've been to in the states (and i've been to many including the fiesta bowl, rose bowl, nba championship, etc.) that has compared to a football match both in excitement and crowd were the rose bowl (this past year) and a a basketball game for the state title between my h.s. and our archrival...there were 20k people there jumping, chanting, insulting the other team, everyone drunk, fighting in the crowd...reminded me of a good football match.

It's because you morons call it soccer

No one plays fantasy soccer. Therefore no one ever cares about soccer.

How can a country like a sport that it never fantasises about?

I play fantasy football for the UEFA CL, the WC, the EPL...

you kind of proved my point bern...MLS games suck balls...meanwhile, Yankee games are amazing.

MLS games do suck balls...but pretty much every other premier league in the world is awesome. An average EPL,Serie A,Bundesliga, etc. match is more exciting than even a yankees v. red sox game 7 world series match.

you need to go to an argentine club match, now that is some hardcore stuff

oO; Maybe soccer is not popular because there aren't any cheerleaders on the field? o_o; xP Maybe that's why.

"you need to go to an argentine club match, now that is some hardcore stuff."

I agree I was at a Boca v. River match and it was probably one of the best football experiences I've ever had...
