Social and Party Atmosphere at U of M

How is it? How prevalent is the greek system? Are there house parties or do students usually go to bars? How big do athletic events get? Do i need a fake?
Feel free to elaborate.

All I know is that the school is only 4% greek.

And 4% of 40,000 is 1600 greeks, so there’s still plenty…

I still wouldn’t notice the Greek system here if I didn’t look. It’s tiny compared to the other schools in the Big Ten. The party scene isn’t much to brag about either.

Basketball at the Barn is pretty big here as we’re decent, though our football team needs help.

If you wanted to party every Saturday night, could you? Or would you have to go way out of your way to party.

^ You could, but it helps if you know people who are 21+ or have a house. There aren’t many “come on in” parties. Also if you can’t find a party, you can always pregame and then hop on the friends with your friends and go downtown. About half the clubs/bars downtown are 18+.

I lived in the “biggest party dorm” last year (Territorial) and no one on my floor even drank. I feel like you’ll have to look around quite a bit to find a big party group.
