Social life and weather

Hi I'm from Florida and I want to be a mechanical engineer. I'm wondering what the social life is like there and I've heard the ratios are kinda low but what are they really like? Also, I'm worried wether I'll last or not in the cold. If there is stuff going on I should be fine but if there is nothing happening and it gets really quite that would be a bit sad. So hw are these things there?

Social life at WPI is okay. There are students who play sports, the intellectual types who like discussing policy and ethics, those who study a lot, people who play games in thier free time (a lot of these), those who like to party and get drunk, people who enjoy watching television to waste time, and lots of other types. I have friends who are of my social type and others who aren’t. Keep in mind that in college (regardless of where you go), just like in high school. you are certainly not going to be friends with everyone.

The ratio is kind of low, although it is now 30% females. It really isn’t too terrible although not ideal. There is a lot more to life than being around girls all the time and if you have the right skills, you can get a good girlfriend at WPI.

It sometimes gets quite cold here during winter and spring although I don’t find it that bad (I am from here so I am used to it). There are a fair amount of things to do in WPI and in Worcester if you look out for them. There are well-organized social events, research colloquia, parties, concerts, whatever you can think of. Not quite as good as, say Cambridge/Boston or New York but it isn’t terrible either.

Hey. I’m a WPI student from Florida and I’ve only been through 1 winter here. Its obviously a huge change but thats what I liked about it. Its a great experience to see of all of the seasons. What sucks is that you’re going to have to buy a lot of winter clothing and get used to wearing lots of layers. If you really feel that WPI is a good fit for you than I wouldn’t worry so much about the winter.
