The clubs that I went to usually didn't check IDs for everyone since it was quite crowded and you were usually admitted if you bought tickets prior to the event. Everyone that I went with was over the age of 20 so it wasn't hard for me to blend in. It's like that for me at some bars. If I'm with people that are obviously over 30 then there is a 50% chance that they won't card me. The best you can do is try and see the outcome. I still try to get into bars with my friends because I know there is a chance that the bouncer won't check ID's and I'll get in. It's worth a shot.

Your friends won't hold it against you for being underage. I always feel bad that we get kicked out of bars and lounges because I'm the only one that is underage but they are all very understanding and end up doing activities that don't require age limits.

What is the worst that will happen if the bouncers catch me underage (provided that I'm not drinking or doing drugs or anything else illegal)? Will they just throw me out or will they get me into trouble?

To be honest, once you get past the door they no longer check for ID, unless you're in an 18+ club and they are serving alcohol (they'll ask you upon purchase). I've never been carded after I've gotten into a bar so I highly doubt that you would be carded just being there.

If you are, they would most likely throw you out. There is little they can do to legally prosecute you since you are doing nothing illegal but being in an age restricted zone (which actually isn't all that illegal).

This will be me coming this fall, I got skipped a grade therefore I will be 17 during my freshmen year and I’m concerned about getting into parties/shows that are 18+…

That would suck if you were in Columbia, because they have a curfew in Five Points now, which is where really all of the restauraunts/bars/hang-out places are. It’s the main social scene of USC.

But I’d say for the most part, you’d be fine.

If you’re really worried about getting into clubs, you could just get a fake, and as long as you don’t use it to drink or buy cigarettes or anything, then it probably wouldn’t matter.

It will not be a problem - if you don’t make your age a big deal.
I will graduate college at 19 and I have never been treated differently. Most of them even think it’s cool to be young and crazy in college. You will have so much fun - if you want to.

Maybe I’m wrong, but most clubs are 21+ anyway, so your friends are going to be just as incapable of getting in as you are.
If you’re a girl, having a good social life in college is just a balance of letting loose/not overthinking it and having some basic social skills (.i.e. don’t be a jerk, don’t hang out with toxic people, don’t chew on really crunchy things in a quiet library, etc.). Just go join some clubs you’re interested in, say hi to people, get contact infos, try to remember people’s names, etc.
And as a note of caution, I’m sure you know this already but be very careful when you’re going out to parties. Don’t leave your drink unattended, don’t go alone, etc. And don’t be too trusting.
