<p>From what I hear in other forums, the Columbia social scene is mainly small groups of friends hanging out made during Freshman year (which personally sounds great to me). </p>
<p>It seems, however, like this doesn't bode well for transfer students. What is the social life for a Columbia transfer student like, and what then is the best way assimilate?</p>
<p>well its like that every college. im sure transfers do fine and they live together (i think?) have you visited? there is soooo much to do!

<p>I wouldn't be too worried about it. Social life is as easy or as hard as you make it to be. If you're outgoing and friendly chances are you'll make more than enough friend. It's not like elementary school when you come in in the middle of the year and have to sit alone at the cafeteria for a week or so before integrating.</p>
<p>most transfers live in 1 or 2 dorms their first year so you get to be around other ppl who dont have any clue what's going on. </p>
<p>so you have that and like other ppl said as long as you go out and be social you'll make friends just fine. join a club or something.</p>

<p>most of the transfers i know were put in River but i think there's also a high concentration of them in watt (tho i could be wrong on that last one)</p>
<p>I know of several transfers in the LLC (hartley/wallach), because they have a mix of first years and upperclassmen. </p>
<p>Transfers tend to fit right in, obviously they're a year behind on making friends, but especially at the beginning of the year students are making so many new friends that it's easy to fit in socially. Initiative is essential though without which you're going to be lonely.</p>

<p>Except that website says "Rooms in River go to seniors, with a pair of lucky juniors in the double on the first floor."...</p>
