Social Life as part of the College Search Process

Big vs small. National University vs LAC. City vs suburban vs rural. Cold and snowy vs warmer and milder. Ethnic and geographic diversity of students. Etc. Etc.

How will the social scene differ at various colleges and how important should this be in deciding which college to attend?? What social life factors are worth considering in comparing one college vs another?

I based my decision on looking for a small-ish university in a city, cold and snowy in the winter. Diversity didn't play any factor.

The only "social life" factor I really looked into was girl/guy ratio, but if there's a strong Greek presence there's a good chance ragers are thrown there, and if there's a mix of classes in dorms (freshmen living with sophmores and juniors, etc.) there's a good chance you'll find someone to get you booze if and when you want it.

If you're not into the "drunk" social life in general the best way to get a feel for the social aspect is to go overnight, and I feel as if it should be a major aspect to choosing a college, if the social life at a college doesn't suit you you could become pretty miserable
