Ok, so this is for current Brown students. I’m thinking about applying ED to Brown this fall. I like the open curriculum, strong science programs and opportunities, and the prestige of the Ivy League without the elitism (from what I’ve heard). My question is about the social life. While I definitely don’t mind partying, I don’t want getting trashed to be the major recreational thing to do. What is it like at Brown? Do weird/ goofy people (like me:D) fit in? I would love the intellectual discussions until 3 AM, as cliched as that is. Is that what Brown is like?

why wouldn't you want elitism?

bahaha intellectual discussions at 3 am... no

Whatever you want to find you will so long as you look for it. The same could be said for any mid or large sized university. I would say yes, if you want it to be your experience.

amor caelestis you need to take a chill pill. You're being incredibly rude to people throughout CC. It almost seems like your a non-Brownie seeking to sabotage Brown's reputation for being a friendly Ivy.

Actually, amor, you're really funny. Keep it up.

funny? iwasatypo maybe you should check some of the other things he/she's written.

brunonian, take your own advice

For someoen to say taht there aren't intellectual discussions at 3am would only prove that they haven't experienced everything Brown has to offer. The best discussion I had last year was about the nature of war, as I argued it's historical merits for the human race despite it's tragedy and the universal wrong that is killing, and this took place from about 3-6am.

Yeah, that comment up there was the funniest thing I've ever seen, no doubt.
Thanks for the actual response, modestmelody.

it's not something that happens like every day like kahzoa seems to want; they are few and far between (yes modest, i am capable)

::shrugs:: I didnt get the every day impression, and though I didn't have one every day, I'd say at least 2 or 3 times a week I had a really interesting conversation with at least one of my friends etc.

i guess the only way he'd get them at 3 am was if he smoked weed a lot... except then he'd be arguing the merits of fast food in modern society

And wondering why our Taco Bells aren't open until 4am, and gosh darn-it, where the hell is Taco Bell?

seriously. knock down the scili and put in a 14-story 24 hour fast food complex with a taco bell on every floor!

No complaints from my occasional drug-using ass.

Can't tell you how many times I got mad I couldn't get a pizza past 2am. I guess that's what you get when you have a NYer who's overweight plus some MJ...

What about Via Via?

That's as late ast hey go, 2am, maybe 3.

Well, theoretically everything in the city has to close by 2. But if you're lucky, you can knock on the door of Via Via pretty much as late as you want and still get pizza.

Eh, Keeney/Grad Center is too far for a knock on Via Via's door.

I miss Moe and his delicious food... He used to sit outside of Keeny until all hours of the night and sell just about everything a drunk kid could want...
