Social life at CMC

Hey, how is the social life at CMC? Are parties there any good? Is there a lot of interaction among the other schools? Do people go out into LA, Claremont, or basically anywhere off campus very often? Thanks!

I was told the attitude at CMC is work hard, play hard. There are supposedly lots of parties.
Plenty of people go into town, but I doubt may people go into LA. It might be a downside to the Claremonts. They say their campus is very self-contained and people do not leave campus very often.

I've heard that because the 5Cs are so different, there is ALWAYS something to do on campus, which is why 98% of CMCers live on campus all 4yrs...they just don't want to leave!

Depends if you have a car or not. Lots of people go into LA a lot. I don't usually, but hey, it's certainly possible. I walk into the Village at least once a week. The parties are so, so, and get old after awhile, but then again, you don't go to college for the parties.

Thanks for the responses. I also forgot to ask how the dorms were at Claremont. I always hear about how Pomona's dorms are awesome but I've heard little of CMC's.

For what it is worth, PR ranks CMC dorms #11 and Pomona #12.

Social life: YES it's true... i HATE leaving campus... I always feel like i'm missing out on something! I live really close by, so I do have to go home more often than others. It's hard when you're so adjusted here and you always want to be integrated into all your friends' lives. When you leave.. that feeling breaks a little.

Dorms: I would say that YES.... CMC dorms are better than pomona's in an overall sense. It doesn't work in Pomona's favor because some of the dorms are just so OLD and a little run down, whereas some are also GORGEOUS. That extreme range probably just put their average down a bit. CMC dorms are practical, spacious, and efficient. There are dorms to avoid, but even people living in those dorms still love it. A lot of times... it's more about the people than the physical aspects.

Clark V and Clark I at Pomona are amazingly awesome. CMC's look like very 1990s.

Either way, CMC'ers throw good parties or find good ones at the other campuses.

Rock on.

Tell me what you think of Pitzer students please.

“Hey, how is the social life at CMC? Are parties there any good?”

The social life at CMC is amazing. Huge parties happen almost every Thursday and Saturday night, and you can find a party (of at least 20 people, as long as you get to know them) any night of the week. Just two weeks ago we had our annual 24-Hour Party. Noon Saturday til noon Sunday! (If you can make it that long you definitely belong at CMC)

“Is there a lot of interaction among the other schools?”

A ton. Everyone comes to our (CMC) parties, and the other schools host good parties of their own sometimes too. You can take classes at any of the schools (although I would never take a class at Mudd, sounds like death) and eat at any of the dining halls (which is a HUGE plus, especially on burrito Tuesday at Pomona). Most people have friends at all five (OK…usually not Mudd) schools.

“Do people go out into LA, Claremont, or basically anywhere off campus very often?”

My friends and I go off campus all the time. We go to watch sporting events at Staples or Dodger Stadium, the beach, Melrose, Santa Monica Pier/Venice Beach. If you’re more into the outdoors skiing is 25 minutes away, JTree (Joshua Tree Nat’l Park) is a common place to go, and there are plenty of casinos nearby for fellow gambling addicts! There are so many places to go around Claremont it’s amazing.

“I also forgot to ask how the dorms were at Claremont. I always hear about how Pomona’s dorms are awesome but I’ve heard little of CMC’s.”

It all depends on where you live. North Quad dorms are not very nice but they’re pretty big, have suite style bathrooms, and open to the outside. Mid Quad dorms are smaller (usually), have communal bathrooms, and open to an inside hallway. South Quad dorms are really clean and spacious, have communal bathrooms, and some have pretty good views from the upper stories. And then Claremont Hall is unbelievably nice. Basically it all depends. There are great dorms and there are average dorms, and sometimes it just depends on what you like.

Goofy liberal potheads who often stage ridiculous protests. Cool though.

I know I’m bringing up an old thread, but is that what people really think of pitzer students?
