I am very curious to see what the social life is at CMU. I have read that it sucks and no one does all that much, but study. Do lots of people party a lot? Are the parties mostly frats or off campus or what? Do they go to downtown Pitts. or what? And is Pitt fun at night? Any comments would be awesome, thanks.

I wouldn't put too much stock in those "student review" websites. The people who have a good time on the campus won't have the time to go on these sites and gloat about their school. The majority of the people are the those who stay inside all day and have nothing better to do than complain about the university.

CMU is a pre-professional school, so there is a "professional" atmosphere. There IS a party life. The social life (much like every other university) is what you make of it. You can party, study - do whatever. Southside is pretty nice with the jazz clubs and things like that. There's also a park right next to the campus as a place to hangout. You'll find that no matter where you go there will be a social atmosphere.

yah. ive realized, and even though i havent set foot on the campus yet (SAT!!) that alot of students are really serious about school. but alot of them also love to have fun, so dont worry so much about social life. thats one thing i worried about and almost missed out on cmu as an experience. you make your own social life. and dont apply to a school just because its a party school either. my friend did that one year, got in, and was kicked out mid first semester because all she did was party. walden's right tho... it is very professional. be prepared for work, AND play.
