You know, there are two types of students at Georgia Tech: first, there are the students that have no social skills, sit in their room, and expect “women” and “fun” to come to them (or for them to at least be told where to find those things). Then, there are students with some social ability that have no problem meeting people.

The first group is generally miserable at Tech. There are no “planned activities” (it’s not a retirement community), and on-campus events outside of greek events are usually scarce. But for the second group, that actually make friends, doesn’t mind traveling to other places (Buckhead, Virginia Highlands, Emory, etc.), it’s really not bad at all.

No planned activities? The RAs, the Student Center Activities Board, Alumni Association, and plenty of other groups plan events all the time. Generally the problem is that there is too much going on, and it’s hard to choose.

When were you last at Tech and active, GP? Your age is starting to show! :-)

I guess I’m thinking of it like a cruise. On a cruise, when you wake up, there’s a piece of paper under the door saying: “From 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, you can do X, Y, or Z. From 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM, you can do A, B, or C…” etc That’s what I think some people want. They want to be told what to do, where the “fun” is, and where the “girls” are.

Tech isn’t like that - at a school like Florida State, you can walk out the door and meet women with little to no effort. At Georgia Tech, it’s not like that. You have to put in at least some effort, and often go off campus to meet women from other schools. At a school like UGA, there’s so much going on during a given week that people hand out fliers and ask you to come to their parties. At Georgia Tech, it’s not like that. You have to know where people are and what’s going on.
