social life at NEU

How is the party/social scene at northeastern?
Also, do they have a good eng. dept.?
Thanks =D

Social life? You're in downtown Boston! Boston is the biggest college town in the world. Dozens of colleges in a few mile radius. So if social life is a big deal, you'll never get bored in Northeastern or Boston. And Northeastern has a good Engineering program, the biggest advantage being that it has one of the best Co-op programs in the country and you are nearly 100% guaranteed a job straight of college.

sounds good.

The Greek life isn't much compared to most schools, but then again it's an urban campus. There are several clubs to go to but one bad thing is that the public transportation system closes down by 12:30/1:00 AM, so you'll have to pay for a cab ride back.

are there a lot of oncampus/dorm parties? i kinda like to sleep at night....

I'm wondering what do poor (as in broke) college kids do in a big city that makes it so fun? I can see walking around and enjoying (cheap) food, but beyond that, what? Also I presume the clubs are over 21?

With respect to inexpensive entertainment for the under 21 crowd, there is an Afterhours Club (nonalcoholic) located in the student center at NEU. I think it is open 6 nights a week with later hours on weekends (closes at 3:00am on Fri and Sat). Local musicians frequently perform there; I know my son often hangs out there when they have jazz performers - or just to play pool sometimes (although many of the dorm buildings have pool tables in their lounges as well).

bunny, the social life at NEU is... different. The school doesn't have much of a campus, and that limits some of the socializing. Students tend to hang out with the people they live with or invovled in activities with. My D, a freshman, said that there were far fewer parties & evening activities at NEU than at her best friend's school, Wesleyan. It took her a bit longer to get to know a lot of people. However, she did say, there were a lot of inter-school socializing: she's gone to quite a bit of parties & events at BU, Emerson and MIT. Another factor in the social life are the co-ops. D plays on a college athletic team and comments how some of her team mates on co-op attend practice/matches straight from work. They come in their suits, play, then go home to go to bed because they have to be at work at 8am the next day. A little slice of real-life in college.

By the way, my D loves NEU. She's a hands-on type of person and, like you, is interested in medical school. She is currently contemplating a neurosciece or behavioral neuro-psychology major. She's looking forward to her co-ops and is currently working in a science lab as part of her work-study. And she loves, loves Boston.
