Social Life at Northwestern

I was reading up on Northwestern on the Princeton Review site and found this:

"Most take schoolwork very seriously. 'One-third of the kids never leave their dorm rooms, one-third of the kids only leave their dorms to do extracurricular stuff like plays or journalism, and the last one-third are depressed because they wish they had gone to a state school with their friends where there's actually a party scene,' writes one undergraduate."

Is this at all true? What is the social/party scene at Northwestern?
I am debating between Northwestern and the University of Virginia and my two main concerns are the social life and the weather. Post with any comments. Thanks.

Princeton Review sucks. I'm sorry, but that couldn't be less true. Well, of course there are going to be some antisocial people at a school like this, but on the weekends, parties abound. I have never had a problem with the social life here, ever, especially with the big greek scene.

I am debating between Northwestern and the University of Virginia too! I have pretty much made up my mind that I am going to Northwestern though.

efg88, what made you decide on Northwestern over UVA? Do you find the weather in Evanston to be at all intimidating?

I live in Massachusetts so I am kind of used to bad weather. I'm sure it is nothing compared to Evanston. The reason I am probably picking Northwestern over UVa is because I think I would be more of a fit at Northwestern. They are both great schools though.

Northwestern has a good social life if you're outgoing, the girls could be more attractive though. If you want to make sure you have the opportunity for an active social life, live in Elder, Bobb, Allison, or Willard though. Also, go greek.

I did a good amount of partying in high school, but I have never done more partying than I did fall quarter. So I could say that for me personally, there is definately a social scene at this school. I think the major difference between NU and many state schools ive visited is the lack of student housing directly off campus. I mean, the nearest apartments are a nice little walk (from north campus at least) and even then, there are only so many people who can fit comfortably in an apartment. So you lose that crazy party scene by not having some cheap housing on the outskirts of campus. However, the frat houses do their best to make up for it

pregaming anything and everything in most dorms.

I am deciding between UVA and NU (and Amherst and Tufts) but that's only because I am Virginian and will save A LOT of money by going to UVA

If you are from MA you have nothing to decide about ... go to NU. It's a better school by almost all standards
