lol :] I'm curious about this as well.

Besides eating clubs (which are big with upperclassmen, right?), what's there to do as a freshman/sophomore

My sibling goes to Princeton and he says that the social scene at Princeton is the one thing that sucks. Basically it is just the eating clubs; there is nothing else to do besides that. I went to one when I visited and it wasn't really spectacular. It was like a horribly bad/lame party where everyone IN the eating club thinks its awesome :-) My sibling doesn't even go to the eating clubs anymore really.

Freshmen and Sophomores go to the eating clubs on Thursday and Saturday nights (the party nights), so it's not just upperclassmen. There are other social outlets through extracurriculars, fraternities and sororities, etc., but the eating clubs are a dominant force. There is some dating, but hookups are more common.

:( @ the above post. The eating clubs don't really seem like my thing...Neither do hookups...>_> How common is that? How much effort does the university itself place on social life?

what is an eating club? just people getting together to eat?

Look on the web to find out about eating clubs. Wikipedia defines them pretty well.

As far as the social scene, i.e. what is there to do if you don't go to the Street (the clubs are on Prospect Street)? Well, for some kids evenings are spent at the Daily Princetonian editing:). There are always movies playing. There are huge TVs in Frist, the student center, where people gather to watch certain shows. There are restaurants in Princeton - people eat out. The residential colleges have activities, some times taking buses to New York for discounted performances of Broadway shows or sporting events.

There is a coffee shop on campus, Cafe Vive, kids go and study there and hang out.

People go to hockey games or swim meets with their friends.

Princeton is a very social place.
In the winter if it snows they ride cafeteria trays down the golf course hills.

Or, they stay in and study with their roommates, their GFs, their BFs. I don't know about dating per se, but there are certainly many many couples from freshman year on.

If by social you mean parties, that is the Street and fraternity/sorority parties in people's rooms. If by social you mean hanging out in a leisure time moment with people, there are these other things I have mentioned.
