social life at UCLA

I've been living in florida for all my life and have never been to LA. So obviously i have a few questions.

1.does UCLA have a diverse student body?
2.do people just stick to their own ethnic groups or do u see a lot of mix & match going on?
3.what is life like in general on weekends?
4. how much do u spend on a typical weekend?
5.i've heard that there is a huge gay scene at UCLA-is it true?
6.does OOS students settle in pretty well?
7.how do you rate the sororities at UCLA?

I am planning on making a visit if i get accepted

1- depends on your perspective. there's much more religious and social diversity than racial diversity.
2- a little of both
3-whatever you make of it. if you lock yourself in your dorm all weekend, im sure it sucks. but if you make even the smallest effort it's fine. good, even.
4-i'm a senior with a job and would shop professionally if i could, so i'm going to skip this question.
5- huge? no. but the gay community is fairly strong/tightly knit at UCLA and there's a great deal of acceptance on campus.
6- from what i've seen, yes. all of the OOS students i know love it.
7-meh. no comment.

really though, i don't think you can get a feel for the school without visiting, so if you are accepted that would be a good idea.

Yes! Definitely come visit if you can....you'll probably have most of your questions answered from just being here on campus..

it kinda empties out on the weekends cuz lots of people are from socal

6.does OOS students settle in pretty well?
-im oos and im doing well. from what ive seen from other oosers, they seem good too... if youre open and willing to make friends and are generally nice and take the initiative --- youll be ok!
7.how do you rate the sororities at UCLA? well........................

Currently there are 47 Greek organizations that represent 12 percent of the undergraduate student population, according to the Center for Student Programming and Fraternity & Sorority Relations.

Just to answer your question, there is NO social scene at UCLA. Seriously, if you want to have fun, go to USC because this is not the place to do it. The sororities are a good option if you like seeing the SAME PEOPLE EVERY NIGHT AT EVERY LAME FRAT PARTY... but really, if you think of studying or trading pokemon cards as good social activities, go for it because those kinds of amazingly fun things are abundant here

..........

hahahahahah thats hilarious

rofl!

trolls. gotta love them.

social life at usc vs ucla? any thoughts? my impression is that ucla has a better one. anyone accepted to both and trying to pick?

If you like to party (real party, not just alcohol in a dorm room with 20 people), then UCLA is not the place to be.

which university is it easier to meet ppl at?
people are more friendly at..?

Can't speak on behalf of USC, but I find it very easy to meet people here. Of course, this depends on your effort to get to know people, but by far the majority of people I've met at UCLA are very friendly.

definitely agreed!
i think the attitude of people at UCLA is much friendlier and more easy-going than at SC.
and it's soooooo easy to meet people here! xD

"If you like to party (real party, not just alcohol in a dorm room with 20 people), then UCLA is not the place to be."

It's pretty interesting that I always see people from different UC, especially LA always drive up to Isla Vista (UCSB) every weekend just to party.

eh. just because UCSB is in constant hyper-party mode doesn't mean that UCLA doesn't have a good social scene. it's just completely different. people only go elsewhere if they're looking for something else, but id argue that most don't feel the need to party at a different school.

well, thats cuz u dont know me ..............L<AWLAHAHAHAWUIHDAWISUHDISAHDAS

i hateswitchingprofessors2/3inthemiddleofthequarternadyesisympathizewithoyubutiHATEINCONSISTENTCYCYYCYC and its past my bedtime

wow emmeline... what class screwed you over like that?

First, UCLA isn't as bad as people say it is, socialwise. Sure, it's not USC, and it's definitely not UCSB, but there is still a social life here. You just have to know people and be friendly. I mean, I just got back from a night out and it's Tuesday. (Well, Wednesday, now.) There isn't that much of a hardcore party scene, but there's something for everyone. You just might have to look harder to find it.

1.does UCLA have a diverse student body?

Racially, not really. Mostly Asian and White. But people are fairly open.

2.do people just stick to their own ethnic groups or do u see a lot of mix & match going on?

Depends. Some people are very cliquey with their ethnic groups, but that's everywhere. People in general mix and match with whoever.

3.what is life like in general on weekends?

Pretty quiet, actually. A lot of people go home. Thursday's the big party night. Friday's big too. Saturday, still good but not as much. Sunday there's still stuff going on, but people are getting ready for the week.

how much do u spend on a typical weekend?

Depends on too many things.

5.i've heard that there is a huge gay scene at UCLA-is it true?

Actually, I haven't met that many gay people here. Then again, I'm not gay or involved in any gay interest activities/clubs, so I don't know. People are pretty accepting though.

6.does OOS students settle in pretty well?

Based on the experiences of my friends who were OOS, I'd say yes.

7.how do you rate the sororities at UCLA?

Greek presence isn't that big on campus. I don't know how you would rate sororities. Everyone in one loves their own and anyone not in one can't really tell you how it is.
