How's the social life at U-M? Are people preppy or more eclectic for the most part? Are people eager to make new friends, or do they tend to stick to old high school cliques?

oh, come on. it's not a hard question

Actually, it is a very hard question. How can you define social life at a school that has over 24,000 undergrads, 8,000 of which are out of staters and 1,500 of which are international?

In the briefest of possible terms, there is not definition that fits a school like Michigan. Michigan has something for everybody. The campus is quite possibly the most awesome campus in the country (not in terms of beauty but in terms of layout and facilities), the town of Ann Arbor is gorgeous and trendy and the integration of the college into the town is incredible. It is a pretty special university.

Although there are cliques at Michigan (as in every other university), I would say that they are limited to only small groups of students. Most students at Michigan are not cliquish. Some students are preppy, others are eclectic, others are raving sports fans, others are pure intellectuals etc...but most students are very well rounded and do not fit any of those labels.

I hope this answers your question. As you can see, there was nothing easy about your question! hehe
