Any comments on the of social life at Yale? Quality of ladies, prevalence/abundance/lack of alcohol? Lot of time spent studying on Saturday night? High-school-esque cliquiness? Preppiness/anti-preppiness?

Let's hear it all.

You would probably get a better response if you hadn't asked about the "quality of ladies."
You can find/create whatever kind of social experience you want at Yale, imo.

Come on, I didn't mean anything misogynist or offensive. Just throwing stuff out there.

There has already been a thread about the hotness of the people, so you can check that out.

I don't have the insider's perspective but it seems like there is lots to do on Yale campus. Yalies also love to learn/study and they have a lot of academic activities as well.

What better than some good academic endeavour on a Saturday night?

Actually, there were some articles a while back...from Harvard actually that talked about how Yale sponsors more events, parties, etc. They really cater to the students more (trying to make up for New Haven perhaps)

yale=awesome

Of course :p

the experience here at yale is really what you make of it. if you want to go out and party, hang out with friends, watch a movie, even study, yale provides all the opportunities you will need.

New Haven isn't so bad, especially compared to Philadelphia, where our car got broken into while we were on the UPenn campus tour.

Well, that'll leave an impression on you!

Oh come on now. University City in Philly I feel is a very safe place in most spots. Do you remember where you parked? I know there are several shady regions, but I think that that's true of most large cities. All I can tell you is my Dad works there every day and has never had a problem. Try not to let that experience drive you away from Penn forever...

Good point. When I go back, is there a garage that is secure. Our car can't take more abuse, it's waek as it is.

There are several, and if you call up admissions I bet they can point you to them, rather than having you just park on the street. It's all good, I guarantee that it won't happen again.

Is Yale a big drinking school, like Duke?

I wouldn't consider it "a big drinking school," but kids do drink, and boys probably more than girls. It's easy to not be a drinker and still be very social and feel included. On the other hand, parties usually do include drinking, but don't necessarily revolve around drinking, if you can see the difference.

hey everyone
I like working hard and am proud of my academic accomplishments, but I also like drinking on weekends, having an all around good time. I'm not saying I do that all teh time, but I do like to do it sometimes. I know Yale is hardly a party school and I'm not looking for one. And the same for Harvard. I guess I'm wondering what the social life is at Yale (or if anyone can tell me, at both schools) and how it compares between the two schools.

Thanks

Yale has a better social life and there are numerous articles in the Harvard Crimson bemoaning their lack of a social life compared to Yale.
Here is an honest article comparing the two (in two parts):

Interesting articles. I would have to ask "should I go for 90% of the prestige and have a 100% undergrad experience at Yale?"; or go for 100% prestige and 90% of the undergrad experience at H?" I know I should say Yale, but that Harvard name....I hope to have the choice!

the best f u c k i n g choice in the world
