social life @ cornell

im worried that since cornell is such a competitive school that the social life might not be comparable to the typical "college experience." since theres not really much of a city around it and its almost always cold.. do cornell students still go out & party, etc on weekends? i dont want to be stuck inside studying ALL the time!

lol u must not have read any threads about this. Lets just say you won't be disappointed with the partying scene? I'll let a Cornell student answer lol

I think most colleges aren't really located in the vicinity of vibrant cities. Cornell students party from Thursday night through the weekend according to most current students. Mostly the parties are at the frats is what I've heard. Collegetown/Ithaca is awesome anyway.

The parties are pretty sweet, that's all I can say

lots of people assume that cornell = greek life or no life. that's totally not true. i visited cornell this weekend and stayed over my friend's sorority...i asked the girls a lot of questions about the social scene. they told me that cornell is awesome because of its size...there's always something to do. i mean in a school with 13000+ students, there will be social scenes to suit everyone :) that means cool stuff takes place besides the blah frat party scene. plus, ithaca isn't as bad as people assume. it's pretty trendy and there are plenty of great restaurants around (the boat yard = yuMmm). CTB...which is basically right on the campus has the best casual food (epic bagels, sandwiches, smoothies, and coffee). I would suggest finding some friends with cars because you would have a much easier time getting around...there are mall-ish places a couple minutes away where you can rent movies and things of that nature. you can still have loads of fun without a car...remember that in college, everyone is looking to have a good time. great people + great setting = good times!!

yeah, I visited today and girls arent that bad as ppl say...so i assume parties will be pretty good too, lol
my resident hall guide was actually pretty hot.

If you like to party, you'll probably join a fraternity or sorority. There are always parties from beirut to dance parties at fraternities on thurs-saturday. if you get to know older kids and really really want to party, there are people going out all nights of the week depending where you look. The bars are bigger for sophmores and older, usually junior/seniors. If you get a good id youll be ok at Johnny o's, dunbars, and dinos.

there are definately your typical study till 5 am on a fri/sat night kids, but plenty who go out. Each frat/sorority has its own stereotype too, so go around place to place and you can definately find kids like you.
