Social Life, Extracurriculars ... ie living at Case

I've heard that the social life here isn't all that great. But I really don't care much for a social life. What I'm interested in is making good friends in college like I have in highschool rather than a bunch of aquaintances. I've noticed from having been to a wide variety of schools that the environment largely affects how much people open up to one another. If you enter a place and noone is open, you're not likely to be open yourself. So what are the people like at Case? How open can you be at the place? Can you act goofy and hang out with friends, or is everyone kind of reserved and only engage in massive drinking and partying?

What kind of extracurricular activities are available at Case? Is the Quiz Bowl/College Bowl team still around? How organized are the intramural sports? Is there much to do at Case?

What's Cleveland like? I've heard bad things inspired by the eighties and nineties.

Having attended many of their HS tournaments, I can tell you for certain that the College Bowl team is still alive and kicking. They are hurting for new members though.

My son has been on our school's Academic Challenge team for three years (captain now) & is thinking about joining the College Bowl team. It's kind of funny because two previous captains from his school are now at Case & on the College Bowl team at Case.

BobuMohan. What I've decided is that the social life is whatever you make of it. Everyone finds their own niche no matter who they are or where they are. Case does have the rep of being an inept, egg-head engineering school. There are a lot of engineers, but its a pretty undeserving sterotype. I personally know quite a few kids that go there. All have found their own way of being open. All but one love it. The one that doesn't is sort of indifferent. Drinking and partying is around, but not a focus point really and is avoidable if you don't like that kinda stuff. Having lived in Cleveland, most of my life, it's a nice city. It has its ups and downs. It may still suffer from its image from the 70-80s, but, again, that sterotype is undeserving and outdated. I guess in general what I'm trying to say is that both Case and Cleveland are on an upswing. BTW, the new dorms are gonna be amazing.

mominsearch, if you don't mind me asking, which school does he play for? Chances are I've played him ;)

baronwolfnstein - I sent you a private message because it would be so obvious who my son is, and since I am doing all the posting I don't think it is fair of me to reveal who he is:)

thanks for the responses guys.

it sucks that freshman can't get into the new dorms.
