Social Life/Greek Life

Can a few current JHU students comment on the social scene at JHU? What's Greek Life like? Do the kids have dorm parties? Is it a collegial atmosphere? Is there school spirit? Does anyone go to the sports games -- besides Lacrosse? Tailgating?

Just trying to get a feel for the environment outside of the stellar academics.

Thanks!

^Word up. I’m dying to get the insider scoop on JHU social life and atmosphere. My brother goes to a top 30 academic school with great football and I want to know how much I would be missing if I picked JHU.

I am a freshman and JHU and let me tell you, it is FUN. Don’t believe the crap you here about how “competitive” and “serious” we are. Yes, people care about their grades, but we looooveee to party! If you want to party Monday through Saturday, you will definitely find things going on. If you want to avoid it altogether, you’ll be fine also. Something for everyone.

If you want to party sunday night to wednesday night, you’ll be hard pressed. There’s usually stuff going on if you know people/frats but as grades come first, you won’t find anything huge.

That being said, you’ll always find something to do Thursday-Saturda nights. Plenty of frat parties, house parties (if you know upperclassmen), and clubs close to campus. Our football team might be D3, but it’s also one of the best in the league- we’re currently undefeated and if look at the scores online, we’ve beaten the past teams by an insane amount (last game was 65-10). And of course out lax team is well known. Plenty of people attend both games and there’s a good amount of tailgates throughout the year.

Let me know if you have any other questions

How about sororities? Are they popular? Do kids live on campus their freshman and sophomore years or just freshman?

yea sororities are really popular. In fact they are so popular that Hopkins allowed another sorority to join because of the amount of girls trying to join the main 4 last year.

You live on campus for your first 2 years
