Anyone can tell me abou the social life in CMU, but I heard that social life is not that great in CMU and everyone just work and work...

I am also interested in this question as well. I have a bit of a nerdy side to me, but I also love to party, which is why I am still debating whether to apply or not. Anyone?

It depends on what you define as a good social life. Yes, you can find kids to go out on weekends, the frats have parties, and there are people who like to have fun. But it's really not comparable to any party school...people generally don't go out during the week, and the frats can be disappointing if your idea of a college party is limited to experiences at, say, Penn State or Lehigh or even Penn. That being said, Pitt is right down the street, so you can find crazy fun parties if you want...but in general, I'd say that while people like to let loose on weekends, the student body is just way more serious than most schools and that is definitely reflected in the social scene.

Goes for most top schools. Social life is fine IMO.

pittsburgh is ok, its not a very lively city, but u can find things to do. cmu is def not a party school or a big sports school (their football field is worse than the one at my hs!)

well, the football field is the standard turf field, but by far the coolest thing about it was its openness (not in a locked stadium) and proximity to the dorms. When i visited as a bagger, this made for some fun midnight soccer/football =)

I also don't really know what collegebound is saying about Pittsburgh not being a very lively city, maybe he has some different experiences or has heard from other people (who may have known pittsburgh from several years ago), but from my experience Pittsburgh, and especially the area around the CMU/UPitt campuses, is quite lively. Its a great city.
