I will transfer to uw seattle this fall, and I am currently looking for housing. I was going to live in dorms, but since I found out that I may not be able to live in the building I want, I kind of want to look for other options.

So I am just curious, is it really much better to live in dorm if you want to make friends? I want to have groups of friends that I can hang out with, not just meeting some people that I may only talk in classroom. Can anyone give me some opinion?

I really think you should live in the dorms your first year – it’s not impossible to make friends if you don’t, but I would definitely say that it’s harder.

What dorm did you get assigned to?

well, i just got admitted as a junior transfer student few days ago, so I haven’t apply yet. I would like to live in either McCarty, Steve Court, or Haggett. However, according to the agreement, once I submit my deposit, I must live in wherever hall they assign me or I will be charged a cancellation fee.

I am worried what if I got assigned to single room? I really cannot afford it, but if I cancel my application, that is a $300 waste, too. Is there any way that I can definitely live in double or triple room?

If you didn’t ask for a single room, you won’t get one. There is a huge demand for single rooms & only those that want one get one.

I think there is a good chance that you will get the dorm you want. Most people like where they end up. I was in McMahon last year & really liked it.

PS You need to apply NOW, as soon as possible, or you may end up with no room at all.
