Social Life Question

"If I dont get into Brown or any other Ivy, though I probably will, I will simply just get accepted, as i already have, to schools such as northwestern who are FAR more lax about addmissions."

"FYI, I have been accepted to brown."

It looks like his posts are a little bit inconsistent. I didn't see the part where he said he was already accepted because I couldn't make it through a second paragraph of his trash.

Am I wrong in thinking that it is impossible to be accepted to two schools, Northwestern and Brown, who both have early decision but no early action and the regular decision notifications will not be out for another month? I guess the admissions process is different for athletes. Either that or this kid is lying.

Or he got likely letters which is unlikely in itself.

I signed up after reading this, I dont know why you guys are chirping smartjock so hard. Sure he's bit cocky but most athletes are, I'm signing on to brown for tennis. I actually have an official visit tommorow where they pay for your flight down and accomodations etc. Athletes do have a FAR different admissions process; no fee's, due dates, immediate acceptances. Also the standards for acceptance are far different, I have a low 80 average and got accepted into brown with a 1750 on my sat. There are kids in ivy league schools with 1600's or lower on sat's, and this is fact as they are friends of mine. Smartjock, what sport do you play? You talk the talk but do you walk the walk.
Ps. I do agree with him about the difficulty of schooling and sporting demands, as another athlete I'd ask of you guys to lay off. He sounds actually pretty tame in consideration to other kids.

smartjock. words are cheap. if we both get accepted, i'll beat you in every single sport. if we have to have a cage fight, so be it. i'll show you the definition of an epic win.

I'm honored that you took so much time to write a post just for me.
But next time, if you want me to read it, make it a bit shorter.

** BigAl- Please shut up. **

I don't know you and you don't know smartjock. ** Please get a life ** and don't demean yourself to attacking others on public messageboards. ** College Confidential is for sharing information about the college admission process (although they do contribute to the "college mania" feeling), not trying to pick fights and insult others.** Smartjock did nothing to warrant such baseless attacks.

This strikes me as odd and hypocritical.

Which begs the question:

2) Do you read your own posts?

3) Again, do you read your own posts?

Anyways. I have no problem with athletes getting admitted into Brown. I completely understand that they have an extremely tough admissions process, and that for them, life is no where close to easy. Because I was a varsity athlete in high school, I can sympathize (on some level) with their situation. In terms of work ethic, they definitely have my respect.

But when they come to a public forum and brag about their lackluster high school achievement and their nonchalant acceptance into Brown, I don't think they should be surprised to receive criticism, especially when they also mention how attractive they are, and how inevitable their acceptance to a great university is.

If a student with a perfect score on the SAT's, a perfect GPA, stellar extracurriculars, mind-blowing essays, and amazing research accomplishments came onto this board with the same arrogance, the same thing would happen. People would tell him to check his ego. Why? Because even that student wouldn't have a 100% chance of getting into an ivy. People should approach their admission with some sort of respect and sensitivity. There are plenty of students who are extremely qualified and have worked just as hard as smartjock who will not get accepted. So, please excuse us if some of us get offended by his posts.

The point is, smartjock isn't getting flack because he's an athlete. He's getting flack because he's (frankly) inviting it onto himself by being so crass. And please, I don't think "being an athlete" is good enough of an excuse. Most athletes at Brown, in my experience, are extremely nice, study hard and have my deepest respect.

Plus, in an environment where some people may (wrongly) question your manner of getting into an ivy league, I don't think it helps to ask for "special treatment" ("oh, I'm an athlete, I can be rude"). I'm going to assume, after all, that you want to be regarded as an equal at Brown, and not some undeserving ego-trip.

Smartjock, if you actually did get accepted, I encourage you to come. I'm sure you'll learn a lot. Plus, you obviously have a lot to offer to the school if they sent you an acceptance letter. My regards. Congratulations. Please lose the swagger.

A+ thread, would read again.

"A+ thread, would read again."

oh the hilarity

1st question. It's very laid back. There are a lot of parties and jams and fun things to do on campus and around campus. There's a great mix of academics and fun. And you can find circles of people that are more debaucherous, and those that are less so, to your liking.
2nd question. Plenty of girls
3rd question. There is a large gay population but by no means more than half. Brown is a great place to go if you're gay but also if you're straight. If gay people make you remotely uncomfortable, don't go here. We're vocal and we're accepted. If you don't jive with that, and you aren't Quigley, Brown probably won't jive with you. Not that anyone actually jives with Quigley, lol. If you want more info on the gay scene, pm me (this is less directed to the straight male OP (haha, maybe he'll become a sophomore and change his mind too....) than at others reading this thread).
