i applied to davis for fall 2007 and from what i have heard and what the people in this forum say about davis i get the feeling that davis has a lot of school spirit because of the football team. also davis is a small town with not a whole lot of things to do but that makes the campus more lively since many people choose to stay on campus on the weekends. there are a lot of frats which means a lot of frat parties...my friend who goes to davis said that her first day there she was invited to one. also from what i have heard the people at davis and norcal in general are pretty laid back....hope that helps =)

Ok, I can answer a lot of these questions. Btw, I came up from socal, too, what part are you from?

School spirit is off the hook, aggie pride is all over the place. Beginning with summer advising when we pack all our new freshmen into an auditorium and play the fight song with the lights off to the annual bonfire when the band rocks out in front of a giant group of students with the huge bonfire at night aggie pride is instilled early on. Football always sells out at home for which we had to build a brand new stadium opening next year which should be amazing. I go to as many soccer games as possible, too, and they are just as crazy. I always lose my voice and there are always this group of guys at every soccer game that shout out hilarious stuff. I havent gone to any volleyball games and only a couple of basketball games, but those have been fun, too.

The party scene is big. We have a huge amount of frats and theres a frat party almost every weekend. Frat culture is pretty big here and we take it pretty seriously. There are a lot of any type of parties, I've gone to a bunch of house parties, too, although I prefer frats. And there are a bunch of clubs in sac and frisco that people like to go to, as well(and we have our own - The Grad, which is alright). There are a bunch of bars as well that I see filled with upperclassmen on random nights, but I havent gone to them yet since I'm not 21 yet. Aggies generally party hard on the weekends after working hard on the weekdays, although there are always oddball parties during the weekdays, too, which I dont understand since who parties on a Tuesday?

Davis is really chilled out, I study hard and so does everyone else but no one is ultra-competitive with fellow aggies. We all hold the curve dear to our hearts, tho, dont get us wrong on that, but for the most part we believe our grade is based on how hard we work.

Megadittos to what megathunder said. Be it intramurals, clubs or NCAA the sports are a huge deal at UCD. The Aggie pack is the largest school spirit organization in the country. Aggie pride is tremendous. Davis is chill and an awesome college town environment. You can always find parties on the weekends, and on the weeknights often times as well. UCD students are big on internships and research. We have a good balance of working hard and playing harder.

As for SB, it is a fun and wild place, but totally different than UCD. They have very little support for their sports teams, and sports are not popular there. It is totally a beach/party environment. There is the CC, Santa Barbara City right there and all the students from both UC and CC live in Isla Vista. Due mostly to the CC kids it is a constant party on the DP. If you are at all prone to lack discipline then SB will be hard for you. People party there 24/7. You won't find school spirit at SB, but you will find a constant party. UCSB= you can study buzzed!

Social, sports oriented, sorority/frat scene on/bordering the campus and fun
UCLA, CAL, UCD

Social party/beach scene, fun (not sports oriented) has sororities and frats though not as much of an impact on campus life
UCSB

serious study schools (parties exist but are not so easy to find) lack of on campus frat/sorority scene, not sports oriented (sports exist just not a big deal on the campus)
UCI, UCSD

hippie campus (known for first rain) google it!
UCSC

They have very little support for their sports teams, and sports are not popular there.

We had the fourth largest average attendance in Men's Soccer in the nation, and set the NCAA record for largest single season attendance (about 8800 fans) for a Division I men's soccer match this year (including playoff games).

And the celebration when we won the College Cup in IV was awesome:

If you want an academically and socially balanced school and a true college experience, it's UCSB. I hope you get in Socal18. You won't regret going here.

I have heard from friends that UCSB students love their soccer team. Great job winning the championships! The lack of support at SB comes from the AD's office. Sports are given little support from the university (UCD is highly supportive of sports) which is a problem for SB. While UCSB is a fun beach school, there is nothing comparable there to the Aggie Pack and the amount of sports enjoyed on all levels at UCD. SoCal18 you need to visit before you decide in the event you are admitted to both schools. They are both great schools, just different. Good luck to you dude.
