i had some doubts about some universities social lives but I could be completely wrong. People hear different things from different people and get the wrong impression. What "type" of people are generally at each of these schools? What is the social life like? Id like to add U Michigan and Virginia to this list too if possible. I'd really appreciate it thanks!

You might find more accurate answers on the fora for each of these schools, OP. We’re mostly parents hoping our children have no social lives we’re not aware of.

Vanderbilt has a very good social life - there are tons of things to do on campus and lots of places to go out in Nashville. School spirit will be less at schools like Emory and WashU which do not have D-1 sports. Michigan and UVA are both very good socially.

My D’s app advisor said he’d never heard anything but the highest praise of UMich from student’s he’d sent there. They are uniformly very happy with their choice. Seven Saturdays each year begin with following the marching band upto the stadium surrounded by thousands of party-ready u/gs and alumni. School definitely seems to take a backseat to socializing those weekends. sounds like a very cool place to be 20. I’ve witnessed something similar at UVA. The social life is pretty good there, too, although I don’t know if all the kids are as happy about it as they appear to be at UMich.
