Social Life

Hi,
I'm choosing between harvard and princeton. I'm a science kid, and the science is great at both schools so I'm making my decision based on the social life. I am a decently good looking but not tall (5'8) south asian kid from a private school, and I go to a party probably every other weekend in high school but am not a huge partier (getting hammered). I'm vaguely preppy but obviously not your classic preppy groton waspy kid, and I'm wondering if I'll fit in at princeton based on teh eating club scene/ hook up scene. I visited harvard and had an awesome time bec i knew a senior there and he took me out, so I don't want to be unfairly prejudiced agaisnt princeton who shut down the eating clubs when i was there. Does prospect street get old? Is it hard to find good looking nice girls?
thanks

This question is being asked a lot this year. I have no idea why. We’ve spent a lot of time giving our opinions, would you mind searching the forum for 'social life?" I worry that otherwise some of us will answer you with less enthusiasm than we had earlier on this year:).

I wonder, who’s spreading rumors that Princeton has a bad social life? Kids from Harvard come to Princeton just for the parties. True story. They must have put on less-than-stellar Preview Weekends this year.

From what I can tell, Harvard and Princeton have very different party scenes. I can’t say too much about Harvard for sure, but from what my friends there have said, after room parties there’s a noticeable reliance on the bar scene (and subsequently fake IDs and money for alcohol) and final clubs, which I know nothing at all about, especially regarding exclusivity. Princeton’s eating clubs have a great party environment for a college student given that you never need a fake, and the only alcohol money necessary is that used for pregames - beer at the clubs is free. Getting passes to bicker clubs isn’t too difficult if you make friends with upperclassmen or have friends on varsity sports teams/in fraternities or certain performing groups. I don’t go out very often, but my friends who do haven’t really gotten tired of the Street yet, and once you join a club as a junior, your club will probably have plenty of members-only events, which are typically much better than average nights out as an underclassman.

As far as girls go, this isn’t a television show (read: Blue Mountain State), but I was still pleasantly surprised regarding the general attractiveness level on campus. I highly doubt we’re noticeably different from any other similarly smart school (except I’m pretty sure the Princeton student body as a whole is much more fit than, say, MIT, because nearly everyone here works out regularly and we have a higher proportion of athletes than probably any other division I school).

Of course, there should be a huge distinction drawn between party scene and social scene.
