So I am enrolled in CWRU for next year and I really am dying to know more about the social life. I know people who go to case and love it, but I keep reading about there being a total lack of social life. I'm a pretty normal person and want to have fun. I would like to go to parties on the weekends. Are there parties? If so, are they fun? What are the fraternity parties like? Also are the guys normal and not socially awkward? Do people have random hook ups? What are the different crowds of students? I know I have to work hard academically, but I want to work hard and play hard. The first few weeks of school are there any big parties thrown?

I got accepted early action, and it’s one of my top choices so far for engineering. I’m also wondering about the social life since I have to decide where to go. I would also say I’m pretty normal, and I’ll go to some parties (My friend group doesn’t do that though in high school). I just want to know if the people are friendly and if it is common for people to hang out on Fridays and Saturdays. Do people like to go out and just eat dinner and hang out?

Social life is decent, but you’ll have to actively go out to seek what you want. Unlike some other schools, Case isn’t going to have many events hosted by the university itself.

That being said, there are definitely parties every weekend. Most people who go to parties are not socially awkward and depending on what type of party you go to (upper class, fraternity, etc.), it can either be either chill or something more intense. Fraternity parties tend to be the latter, but it also depends on the chapter. There are definitely hook ups, but those can be avoided easily (or not…). From my experience, the students you hear about tend to be either the stay in their rooms a lot, or the party-types, and those who fall in between on the spectrum tend to be a bit harder to find. In short, everything you’ll want will be there, you’ll just have to find it.

People are generally very nice at Case, whether they party or not. I’ve never met someone who I’ve felt uncomfortable hanging around.

There are definitely socially awkward people. However, there are a lot of normal people who like to have fun. As ChiGuy mentioned, most people you’ll encounter at parties are normal. Greek life is big at Case. There are parties most weekends. Also, with a couple bars on campus and several right off campus there are plenty of opportunities to go out with friends. While it isn’t like it was during the Western Reserve days, and it isn’t Dartmouth, it is still fun.

I made a huge post on this: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/case-western-reserve-university/1729119-a-definitive-objective-description-of-case-western-by-a-current-student.html#latest
check that out, and yeah there are parties. You just have to actually meet people to get in. Also there are definitely random hookups. Dance floors are usually full of them. If you are fit and somewhat attractive you’ll be fine with guys. There are a lot of awkward ones, but not usually at parties.
