what's it like

Impression from my overnight visit:

Anyone with a basic knowledge of the school can probably reasonably worry about the social scene at Swarthmore. However, the amazing thing about a campus full of intellectual, interesting teenagers is that they're still teenagers. There are parties (and there were on the night that I stayed), people do come out of their dorms to hang out (a lot, I pretty much met everyone in Hallowell), and I felt like I would be happy there.

Sharples seems like a great addition to the social life. I've heard some people who have never been to Swarthmore suggest that Sharples dining hall is a source of cabin fever for Swatties, since it's the only place on campus where they can get a full meal, but I disagree. I went for dinner and then lunch the next day, and it was a great socializing atmosphere. It was probably my favorite place on campus, actually.

I doubt that helped in any way, sorry. ;)

My impression is, they are normal kids and know how to have fun. My son is taking a tv with him this time to play video games with his friends in his room. Most of the socializing is in dorms and on weekends people go to Philly to eat and have fun. There is a frat scene but not very dominant.
