Good luck finding a college where this doesn’t happen. It happens at probably 99.99 percent of college campuses and isn’t exclusive to Lehigh in the slightest. It isn’t fair to single out Lehigh or any college about off-campus parties. From my experience and experiences of friends, Lehigh actually does a pretty good job of monitoring off-campus and on-campus parties.

Ha Ha tutu17

Okay, what you really want is a college that has all 18-22 year olds to live on campus with all their social activities approved by their school and supervised by their school. Those are expectations I would have for boarding school or summer camp.

Well, you just go try and find a college or university that lives up to your standards and please report back to us.

The mission of a college or university is to provide an academic education. Yes, they need to provide a safe campus environment. Lehigh has its own police force.

Sounds like you are having a problem giving up control of your child’s life or accepting they are growing up and have the freedom to make their own choices.

I am not saying everyone should or has to drink. But, I am saying there is a large part of society that accepts social drinking. If a student is 21 they should be allowed to live in an apartment close to campus and have parties where alcohol is served.

Are you sure about the school spirit, I felt the most school spirit when I visited there? Plus aren’t the football games full of school spirit?

6 party school in the nation as of 3 days ago

Lehigh is top party school worth the money (ROI) per Business Insider. See article:

Your concerns are valid and the drug abuse problem is far more extensive than alcohol. Lehigh OFSA is all about diminishing the allure of a party school and Greek life on campus. The problem however is that they are only paying lip service to deep seated problems and like most institutions, they are protecting the brand and scapegoating rather than confronting these problems head on. Kicking the top frats off the Hill and forcing parties into gang, drug and gun infested South Bethlehem will only make things more dangerous.

Greetings From South Bethlehem

If you get your jollies by posting links to crimes that are traumatic to students, then you really should get a different hobby. Just look at what happens in the neighborhoods surrounding the Ivies. Seriously, which university are you shilling for and trying to protect their brand by trashing the great institution and community of Lehigh? How sick.

Marky - right on!

Anyone who takes seriously the scientific merits of some “top college party school ranking” doesn’t have the critical thinking skills required to attend Lehigh. LOL

If you don’t like Lehigh fine. Don’t come. Marky has a great point about other universities. I am not going to bad mouth any school. However, my husband and I happen to have a hobby of going out of our way to visit universities whenever we travel. Most universities were built a long time along and the neighborhoods around the schools have changed drastically. If you are picking on Lehigh you obviously haven’t gotten around much to other major universities in most big cities. LOL

Lehigh has invested millions of dollars in their award winning Greek System. Feel free to go to their link at the university. I have included my personal favorite - the Accreditation Reports.

I just love an excuse to show off all the responsibilities that go into participating in Greek Life. Lehigh views Greek Life as a Leadership Program. Fortune five hundred corporations also view Greek life very favorably. Shows you are a team play and can get along with a wide variety of personalities. Very important qualities to have in the corporate world and especially as an engineer. You get that engineers always have to work in teams, right?

But, places like College Confidential as great for unhappy people to anonymously vent. You would probably be unhappy at any school you attended or your child attended. So sorry about that.

Best, Kikkydee

Love that ranking. Take that, Penn State.

Oldgreg,

My son went to Lehigh. It is nice to have a graduate giving an honest post about drug use. It seems the people who do the most posting on the CC threads are parents and prospective students that might have more social adjustment issues - no offense meant. Since 30% of the kids go Greek I find it interesting 30% of the prospective student’s posting aren’t expressing an interest in Greek life. My guess is that most kids who are going to go Greek aren’t having social issues in high school and don’t anticipate having social issues in college. The peer pressure that exists in high school just doesn’t exist in college. I like how you said the kids on your floor that chose not to party were still part of the group - even if they didn’t go out and party with you in the evening. Student don’t need to live in CHOICE housing to have their own choice about drinking and drugs. Part of becoming an adult is learning to make adult decisions. Anyone who is 18 needs to be aware that any bad decision they make may stay on their record for the rest of their life. Admission counselors can’t base their admission decisions based on their guess a student that may choose to use an illegal drug or choose to drink underage.

If you have PROOF of drug-dealing, why didn’t you go to the authorities? If you REALLY have PROOF, why didn’t you do anything about it? It’s awfully easy to start a NEW screen name and write anything you can dream up, and for any reason. What you wrote doesn’t ring true with anything I’ve heard about Lehigh or from students…ever. If you don’t have PROOF to pass on to authorities, then don’t come on CC anonymously with a brand spanking new screen name and start nonsense that one can assume to be using drugs. How absurd and weird.

Oh Marky, you are so good. I didn’t even bother to take the time to research the new poster. I agree - why would someone have this be there first posting about Lehigh? Yeah, probably someone mad at Lehigh. I feel sorry for the college’s having this open forum where anyone can hide behind a fake name and say anything. This could even be an angry ex employee or ex student. Plenty of those.

But, I don’t even think what they said is really that big of a deal. Honesty, I think you would be hard pressed to find any college that didn’t have drug issues of one kind or another that ever happened. Even private, super religious schools have kids that get into trouble. Young adults, away from home for the first time, sometimes make bad choices. No one can hold a school responsible for the independent acts of their students. Anybody can dig up, and embellish, some crazy story about what a few kids did in a college. These posts reflect more on the poster than is does on Lehigh. Marky is right again to remind us all to consider the source - oh, right, none of us know anything about this source!

Let me state at the beginning of this that I only clicked one of your links, the one that was supposedly a GEM. It was 3 students THIRTEEN years ago. Plus, that fraternity is no longer at Lehigh. It’s that long ago. That’s your GEM? You’re the one that came here resurrecting an OLD post to slam a college that my son actually does attend and is having a wonderful college experience that doesn’t involve drugs or liquor. You come across like you’re here to cause some sort of hysteria like Chicken Little. You’re the one that claims to have firsthand knowledge, yet you really don’t have anything other than throwing around all sorts of vague claims. You don’t have proof to back up any of your inflammatory claims, obviously, so you really need to be ignored. All of the B.S. you are spewing needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

If any prospective or current student or parent is reading this, know that it’s not a stretch to say Lehigh provides a safe, challenging academic experience and will give you amazing opportunities to grow in all areas of your life. It is challenging, but incredibly rewarding. In every aspect of your life, you must stand up for yourself and make good choices. Never bow down to peer pressure because it’s everywhere in life, and it doesn’t go away when you walk off the stage with your diploma. Lehigh will give you opportunities for a successful career and a network of fellow students and alumni that are intelligent and engaging. It’s a lovely campus and my son is so incredibly happy there. There’s no shortage of people that say that Lehigh was the best time of their lives.
