Social life?

Just wondering.... are girlfriends or parties or any of your social life not worth mentioning on the application?

I’m talking about this seriously… these things occupy a good part of my life

I mean, most people spend a lot of time in this department right? Can’t I say “I’ve organized 22 parties throughout high school” or that “I am very devoted to my girlfriend?”

…

nobody cares?

Yes, these are definitely worth mentioning, especially if you’ve received any honors in these departments, AKA “Voted best party host '06-'08.” (Leadership experience??) “Best Boyfriend Award,” etc. These are very unique accomplishments that you will probably not find on other applicants’ r

No offense, but I think they would laugh at you if you put down “I’ve organized 22 parties throughout high school” or “I am very devoted to my girlfriend.”

These are nonverifiable, superficial claims that anybody could make.

is this for real???

man how come these admissions people don’t appreciate this stuff… weren’t they once in high school also? Or is it just because these things can’t be official…can I write about them in an essay?

They don’t matter because “having fun” doesn’t really demonstrate academic ability, discipline, diversity, or talent.

OH yes it does…
Academic Ability: If I have so much fun and still make awesome grades I think that demonstrates ability, not to mention the skills it takes to solve a differential after a 6-pack!
Discipline: It takes a tremendous amount of discipline to stay awake during school after a late night out.
Diversity: Oh there’s diversity in these parties alright: blacks, asians, white, Hispanics, Mexicans; smart people, idiots; hot girls, fun girls, sweet girls
Talent: Everyone has talent!! You just have to uncover it somehow, sometime. That shouldn’t be an issue

I stand corrected, I guess it could help make you diverse at the University of Chicago. (aka where fun goes to die) :)

I’m assuming you mean a six pack of soda cough. You probably don’t want colleges to know that you’ve been drinking before you’re 21, unless you are 21.

To me, it’s like saying that I’ve organized hundreds of LAN parties and coordinated THOUSANDS of WoW (World of Warcraft) raids. I mean, it takes talent to be able to bring a party of 8 together from over the world, right? And it takes a metric ton of discipline to be able to go to bed at 4 am after a successful raid and to go to school at 9 am. Talent could be me being in the number 1 clan in WoW. (And no, I don’t play WoW, using it as an example)

I probably wouldn’t put that on my transcript. but who knows? Maybe colleges will admire a party host. That kid from Australia threw this massive party that wrecked his neighborhood and was invited to throw other parties while getting paid at the same time! I’m pretty sure this is a joke thread though. =P

wow, you’re cool. Do you really think none of us have a gf and spend our time getting **** faced on fridays and the weekend? Sorry to break the news to you, but you’re not the only one.

Put it under ECs:

Throw Parties - 15 hours per week
Get wasted - 6 hours per week
Pretend to be interested in what my GF is talking about - 40 hours per week
**** GF - 5 minutes per day

I assume because admissions wouldn’t find underage drinking to be something positive…

you know if you do it right you could probably make this whole party thing work on your application. it certainly is unique, and selective colleges like harvard do enjoy having one of each type of person. if you have the grades and SAT scores to make you competitive with other applicants, then i can seriously see this working. just make sure to keep the adcom laughing the whole time he/she is reading the app (not laughing AT you, but because of your humor) and i swear youll get into at least one really good school.

let me know if this works out for you as someone stated your not the only one who has done that but here on CC we certainly seem to be a minority.

woami: You don’t like Chicago? I’m applying there I think… is that a bad idea?

Greens: take it easy man… its just a different idea

Haha, this thread is cracking me up! Rofl!
