social life ?

so hows social life on campus? is it just mainly drinking? and are there any night clubs in south bend?

Pretty much drinking. I mean, there’s good parties overall (better than a lot of similarly prestigious schools), but they pretty much all revolve around drinking (like most colleges). That being said I’m sure non-drinkers find fun things to do.

There is absolutely nothing in South Bend really as far as clubs.

everyone keeps telling me that after freshmen year the dorm parties sorta get old

i have heard that the off-campus parties have started to decrease, because the South Bend police have seemed to get a renewed interest. I have also been told that South Bend is not the best place to be walking around at night sober, never mind drunk.

Dorm “parties” are predominantly freshmen and sophmores, but just plain old drinking in the dorms is done among all classes, either to pregame for off campus or maybe just while watching a game. There’s a lot of off campus stuff going on too, so that by the time you really get tired of the dorm parties, you should know a handful of people who live off and you can hang by their/their friends’ places. As for off campus parties decreasing, I’m not quite sure. There have been a few huge parties (as in entire apartment complexes) that have been busted, but your run of the mill party is completely safe as long as it is not way out of hand and as long as there aren’t a **** ton of people there.

There are a few clubs/bars in south bend, but they card hard in general and most underclassmen don’t go.

As for safety walking home, there are definitely places you don’t want to walk through and would call a cab ($3 per person) but there are also others that you should be fine walking home from. I haven’t run into an issue yet.
Oh and there’s also Legends on campus which is a club. It has theme nights like salsa, hip-hop, techno, etc as well as touring artists.
Not being one who doesn’t drink on weekends, I can’t speak too much to the opportunities, but I know they show movies and things like that for sure.
