For current/past students: How is the social life at Wake (ie parties)?

If you are expecting to be able to walk down the street and find a random house party like they have at big state schools, then I would recommend that you go to a big state school and not Wake Forest.

Most stereotypical parties will be in somewhat sketchy frat basements off campus or in the frat lounges on campus. Otherwise you will probably just be drinking with people you are already friends with in a dorm or apartment. Or if you are in a fraternity or sorority, you will have date functions at venues downtown that you can go to too.

There are also plenty of events organized by the school that do not involve alcohol that have surprisingly good attendance. If you are serious about your schoolwork and are involved with organizations on campus, then you probably won’t have the time to have hugely social weekends- but students whose lives are like this chose to be like that and usually like it like that.

so if you drink in the dorms are the RAs strict and all?

Do they write people up?

so if you drink in the dorms are the RAs strict and all?

Every RA is different – it’s like every other school. If you have a party in your dorm room with the music blasting you will OBVIOUSLY get written up. It’s common sense. Most RAs have the same policy – if they don’t see you drinking, they won’t give you a problem. If they see alcohol they need to report it. Therefore, if you’re drinking in your room with your door closed, there’s nothing they can really do unless you’re being loud. Also, when you come in at night, they won’t give you problems unless they see you and you look completely wasted. It’s more because they care about you than because they want to get you in trouble. RAs are students too and they don’t WANT to get you in trouble, but it’s their job to follow the rules. Summary: Don’t be stupid and you won’t get in trouble.

Do they write people up?

A handful of people I know have been written up, but it’s all been for really stupid things – walking the halls with a handle, playing beer pong in their room with the door open, throwing up right outside the window of the RA’s on duty room, screaming and running down the hallways at 3 AM, etc. If you’re doing something that is begging for a write-up, you’ll get one. People come home drunk on the weekends and the RAs don’t say anything. They want you to enjoy your college experience, but not disturb others’ in the process.
