Social scene at NYU

Hello...I've been reading many posts about the drinking scene at NYU and have gathered that it is a major part of it's social life. I'm not a big drinker (although that may change away from home), so I wanted to see if anyone knew about the non-alcoholic portion of student life there. Thanks!

It's New York City --- there's plenty to do. It just costs a lot of money (so does drinking, anyway). It's not too hard to get a group of friends and go out to dinner or try to see a show or do touristy things or just explore some of the Village. One of the best things I've done at NYU was the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, which I think operates on Fridays and Saturdays and is basically a whole night of slam poetry...no alcohol involved. There's tons of stuff that goes on like that, especially in SoHo and the East Village.

If you do not end up drinking much at all at NYU (though that may change...haha), just be prepared to encounter a good number of trashed people knocking randomly on your door or screaming late at night on the weekends :-)

haha thanks the for response. are u a student at NYU?

Yep, a freshman. Are you in the Class of 2009?

While drinking is indeed a big part of NYU, its by no means the only thing to do. Also, you don't have to be an alcoholic to have a good time at NYU, there are plenty of sober avenues to keep you more than entertained for your 4 years there.

i have applied for the class of 2009 at NYU. thanks jwblue... all though i know drinking is a big part of college, i want to know there are also other avenues to take to have fun. it's pretty obvious there is though...i mean, your in NYC!

Is TREY from Laguna Beach at NYU now....?

I'm not an alcoholic either, in fact, I've never touched any alcohol except those used for external purposes. I'm a bit rocky on my acceptance, but if by some lucky star that i do get in, I'm sure I'll be hearing some lectures about "good behaviors" from family and friends. From what I've heard, it seems that NYC/u is easily a place to get polluted, even when you come from a squeaky clean family. But, I think there is some good in it.

hey im going to be a runner for xc and track at nyu does that terribly hinder my social life also does anyone know anything about the people on the team r they cool?

lol I don’t think nyu is clicky like that. Everyone seems pretty chill there.
