I am applying to NEU as a transfer for Fall 2013. I was just wondering, is it hard for transfers to find a group of friends? Is the social scene in general one where you can adjust as a transfer? One of my good friends from high school goes to NEU, but I don't want to rely on him for friends, although that might be a good place to start. Any advice from current students/parents/friends is greatly appreciated!

Wondering the same thing. Trying to decide if its worth it to transfer.

Depends on where you get your housing. A lot of transfers live in International Village which helps get you introduced to other transfers (as well as the other freshman and upperclass students that live there). A lot of transfers get put in the YMCA, which sucks, but there are other transfers there which helps to make friends. And then a lot of transfers get stuck in wherever theres an empty bed in freshman or upperclass dorms. Its by chance/luck i suppose.

I know a few kids who transferred there from more traditional type colleges and also from the dom/campus/freshman scene, and had a tough time. I think there can be that big transition at nearly any college when moving off campus or to more apartment.suite like setting, but throw in the co-up scene and it’s more noticeable at NE. They all felt they benefitted from the transfer, career wise, but missed the more traditional college scenes that they left.
