If you not part of a frat, will the social scene pretty much suck compared to the frat scene.

No (10 characters)

yes.
go greek

dfleish and juicy08, are you students at northwestern?

Yes...and part of the greek scene, if that is helpful.

I definitely think there are a TON of added perks and I am happy I chose to go greek, I love it. But there are so many kids I know who did not join a house that that have just as social NU experiences that I really don't see it making or breaking someone's time at NU.

(That being said, the greek scene provides a lot of outlets for social situations, and if not involved in a similarly social scene you might have to work a little harder to find and be a part of those situations.)

And correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Juicy is a freshman... and rush hasn't even happened yet... so you can make of that what you will.

Are greek parties generally open or private

My favorite aspects of the social scene are things like date parties and formals which are only open to the people in the houses involved. But most houses will do parties/events that are open to everyone (space permitting) to attract new members and keep their name/rep on campus (SigEp Prep Party, etc.).

I'm a freshman, and a lot of my friends have gone to many frat parties already. Highlighter parties at Sig Chi come to mind.

My social life didn't change much after I joined a fraternity.

But then again, the people I hung out/partied w/ were very "social" to begin w/ (w/ many ending up joining fraternities).
