Social scene

I was wondering how the social scene is for transfer students. I would be transfering for the spring semester with 2.5 years left. Is it easy to meet people as a transfer student. Since it seems that most people live off campus, do people mainly stick with their frat friends or friends from the dorms freshman year. I am just wondering becasue I dont know what the living situation would be for a spring transfer. I dont want to get an apartment an know absolutely nobody. But then again, I don't think it would be great to live with all freshman in the dorms.
Any thoughts?
By the way, are frat parties open to the public and friendly to non-frat guys. I like to party on the weekends but I am more of a sit down, drink and talk type of person and would never want to join a frat.

It should be easy for a transfer to get to know people, but at least initially most of them would probably come from your classes or whichever dorm you live in as a transfer. I know a couple of transfer students, and they don't have any problem getting to know people. One key is to get involved.. join organizations you are interested in. Plenty of people at UVA are in clubs and the like, and meet many other students. Some organizations are pretty much like a group of friends with a common interest once everyone gets to know each other.

As a transfer, you won't be living with a bunch of first years. Instead, you'll have several other dorm options, assuming you don't want to live in an apartment. You can check out the housing website at http://virginia.edu/housing/ to find some areas you might want to apply to. I'm not sure how it works for spring transfers, though, but you might find the info you need there.

General fraternity parties are almost always open to the public, as long as you have your student ID. Some might have certain guest lists and be strict about it, but I've only experienced this problem once so far at UVA. You'll definitely have the chance to do what you want (though actually being able to sit down might be a problem).

Social life is great at UVA for transfer as long as you are active and social in the community.

Make sure you do not live in Gooch Dilliard, Copely, or Faulkner or your semester will be terrible. Those dorms are full of kids who like to study on Friday nights.

Try to get into Lambeth or off campus and GET INVOLVED and you will be fine.

best of luck
