Hi,
So I’m applying to Hamilton College RD, but I’ve read some negative reviews on it. Can anyone tell me about the social atmosphere there? I don’t drink or do drugs, I’m academically focused, not interested in Greek life. Diversity and social activism are important to me (I’m biracial, half black half white.) I go to a very clique-y, white, upper middle class high school and I’m wondering if the social scene at Hamilton is like that?
I’m not a Hamilton student (only prospective), so take my opinion as a grain of salt. To the best of my knowledge, Hamilton is, in a certain level, similar to your school. However, although it lacks diversity, the school is trying very hard to diversify its student body.
I also don’t drink, don’t do drugs, and am not interested in Greek life. But I’m applying ED to Hamilton. And also, I’m not white. So yeah…!
Hi, My D goes to Hamilton and absolutely loves it. She has quite a few friends in the Substance Free dorms, so that is an option. Greek life is very small. I rarely here her mention it. There are tons of clubs and activities and students are very involved. Hamilton is very socially active and even arranges buses to NY, etc. for activism events. The world is your oyster here. They are open to starting clubs and activites. Lots of research opportunities, etc. Hamilton is geographically isolated, but the school brings lots of events to campus.
Okay great! I just want to know if I’ll be able to find my place there and not feel like an outsider.
“I just want to . . . not feel like an outsider.” (#3)
Remember that once you are at the College, then you are Hamilton, as much as any other student there. Good luck with your applications.
