Can anyone speak to what the social scene is like at macalester? In regards to partying, social awareness, etc.
What is the campus culture like?
I wouldn’t say there’s one specific campus culture that makes Macalester unique, it’s pretty similar to most other liberal arts schools in that regard, except for the urban location.
What exactly do you mean by social awareness? Nearly everyone is pretty socially liberal, everyone is pretty aware of modern social issues, there’s a fair amount of student activism on campus, a lot of people are involved in the broader Twin Cities community in some way.
There isn’t a huge partying culture, but that doesn’t mean that people don’t go out. Parties tend to be on the smaller side (although they can get pretty big), and tend to be hosted by sports teams, clubs, academic departments, etc. Macalester’s partying culture is somewhat unique, one of the most common kinds of party is a “progressive” where people start at one house, and then have multiple stops at a number of houses.
