How is the party/social scene at Emory? Does it consist of a lot of dorm parties, off-campus, frats? Obviously any college will have parties and what not but would Emory be considered a "party" college at all or is the social scene more low-key?

It's not a party school. People generally start on Thursdays which is very late in the week for a college.

Emory has a great social scene if that's what you're into. Honestly, it seems like students in Greek life tend to go out more than students not in Greek life, but that's a huge generalization. You will find students who don't fit the mold both ways.

I have had a different college experience than el duque it seems like. I think that Tuesday night in the Highlands is the best night of the week. The bars have drink specials, and they're packed with Emory students. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday are the biggest nights. Friday is too, but to a lesser extent. Two of the late night bars - Maggie's and Famous - are packed with Emory students any of those 4 nights of the week.

Fraternity parties tend to be on Saturday night. Date parties and mixers for the fraternities and sororities are usually on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, though sometimes on Monday or another day, too. Really, you're going to be able to find whatever level of a social/party/bar scene that you want. If you don't drink at all, then there is a scene for you.

One disclaimer: though it seems like Greek students party and drink more than students not affiliated with a fraternity or sorority, Greek students as a whole have a higher GPA than all of Emory as a whole. Likewise, both the all-fraternity and all-sorority GPAs are above the all-male and all-female GPAs, respectively. That data is current and available from the Greek Life Office.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you need clarification or more explination.

Yeah the thing about Tuesdays tho, is the bars are for kids 21 and over. So until you're a junior (or get a fake which frankly is too expensive for me) you don't have that option. Just something to think about.
