Social Scene

There have been a few posts like this, but none that specifically answered my question...Dartmouth obviously has the reputation as a work-hard, party-hard school which is all fine and good. However, is the party scene all that Dartmouth has to offer? Or is there the possibility for just laid-back weekends with no partying if you are just in that kind of mood? I know some schools carry the reputation of having a one-dimensional social scene (that being parties); how would you say Dartmouth fits in?

I visited the campus and absolutely fell in love with it, but this is the one issue that is nagging at the back of my mind. While I do like to have fun, I'm not a hard-core partier that goes out every chance I get.

Thanks for the help!

Dartmouth offers an incredible amount of "random fun." In fact this was my favorite part of the school; the local area feels like a park and people always take advantage of this. Whether its jumping into the river at midnight in the summer, ice skating at occum pond, sledding on dining room trays, tossing a Frisbee on the green, or just hanging out with your hilarious friends Dartmouth offers much more than the party scene.

So if you aren't into parties, there is still a lot to do on weekends?

Goodness, yes. They even have their own ski mountain.

There's always a TON of stuff to do if you aren't into frats and partying (I'm not, and I'm never bored). First, there are shows every single day at the HOP, from film society movies to student performances to off-campus performers. Programming Board sets up tons of fun events like ice skating, laser tag, etc. And then of course--it's college, so you spend a hell of a lot of time watching movies, playing poker, chasing each other with water guns, having "discussions" over cartons of Ben & Jerry's, etc. And if you sign up for clubs, activities and sports (even intramural) you'll probably have a ton of nights booked up -- for instance, I'm in an a cappella group, so we perform a lot of nights (and rehearse a lot of other nights).
If you're willing to venture out of your bedroom and even just down the hall, I promise you will not be bored.
