Hows the social scene at Cornell? Is it big on greek life, bars, etc... Looks like an amazing school- anyone have any regrets on going there?

I suggest you start learning how to use the Search function.

i have regrets! should have went to st johns. friends there are having a blast

If you are unable to have a blast here you are socially disabled

agreed......

i find that people who do not have fun do not have it for one or several of the following:

they have an unrealistic idea of what fun in college is supposed to be (cant enjoy the simple little things)

they put their work off all week and by the time it comes to go out they're busy doing work last minute

they're in search of themselves and need a little space from the bigger crowds

anyone else care to input?

college903 asked a simple question and out of 5 reply, 4 were snotty. I believe you guys answered his question.

college903, I suggest you read other posts from different colleges/universities. You will find out that most are happy and proud to describe social life at their school.

I don't know what you define as snotty, because I don't see it.

If social life on a campus heavily revolves around alcohol, and if you're not interested in that for any of the following reasons, then you're looking at a whole different scenario. Reasons might include:

You partied a lot in high school and you're tired of it

You've seen the mess that alcohol and drugs did to your friends

You had a parent who abused drugs or alcohol

You have religious beliefs that discourage partying

You have a medical condition that makes alcohol and drugs dangerous

You'd rather save your money

You'd rather have stimulating intellectual conversations

You're a female who isn't interested in being taken advantage of

You have a steady boyfriend or girlfriend so casual hookups don't interest you

You're interested in preserving your brain cells for later use

And if you have any opposition to alcohol related partying you can:

Watch a movie

Stroll through the commons

Have a picnic

Go Bowling

Have an intellectual discussion

Join a club

Go dancing

Join a dry fraternity

Visit the plantations

See the museum of science

Go on a road trip

And any number of other things to keep yourself occupied.

yeah chendrix, although those things dont last (you can do all those in a day or 2)

simply put, cornell here after first semester of freshman year things really get deeper and deeper about the frat/sorority scene, most bros/sors wont hang out with people outside of their own house and even less chance outside of their greek system

and ithaca being so remote, not a lot of things to do around here

those who said/support if you cant have a blast here, are socially disabled, just curious are you in the greek system?

if not what are all these things that give you this "blast" of a time?

I was not involved in the greek system and I never experienced a dull moment at Cornell.....

cant say the same, but thats cool, i mean i consider hanging with the friends doing nothing wishing there was something fun/new to do a dull moment/evening even tho we're not dull just mean we are there often saying, damn its too cold to , too bad ithaca/cornell doesnt have, why doesnt cornell let us do _ with their __ , why do things open/start 10pm or later and/or conflict with the few other things to do

that type of stuff im thinking

BTW, from the posts on the half-sui thread it appears evident that achu and martinez are the same person.

haha, yeah well sorta kinda, martinez was the one who showed me this whole here college confidntial, started posting a bit in his name(was signed in upon enterting the site) before we both realized it just easier i get my own account

I am Greek but the semester before I was Greek was insanely fun too. I guess it is less fun Spring semester when ur not Greek tho...

There are many things to do and if you get good friends then even just hanging out with them doing nothing/watching tv/watching movies/going out to eat/partying/going to events around campus when it's cold outside is fun. Then when it's warm the opportunities are endless
