Hi,
I'm from the UK, going to be at Emory next year after I graduate from university over here.... I'm going to be living on the Clairmont Campus Undergrad Buildings or something (i think)...

My general question is, what is the social life like? My university is very small, in a medieval town. Everyone you see you recognise, gossip will travel fast, there is a definite trend in fashion here towards dressing like you're posh, and the social events are balls and dinner parties and house parties, with going to the pubs in between (there are 25+ on the 3 main streets of the town, and the uni is integrated in the town). It's freezing half the year so most of the time you're wearing long coats and scarves, for warmth or for fashion.

In a similar manner, what are people's views on Emory? What social groups are there? What do people do/ where do they each hang out? Do you go out or go to parties? Are there any events on certain days of the week that everyone goes to?

Any info to lessen the culture shock would be great!!

theres pretty much anything you want here. there are clubs and bars, museums and plays and concerts (both on and off campus), and frat parties (again both on and off campus). i usually end up at frat parties on weekends, but now and then i go to a bar and sometimes there are emory nights at certain clubs. there are events during the week on campus, like lectures and fun things, small parties and such that people go to. mos thitngs have free food....for some reason thats always the main advertising technique. ("FREE FOOD!!!")
a lot of people are jappy, but its more diverse in terms of, well everything, than most schools in the south id say, at least ones that i looked at. i havent worn a jacket or scarf since ive been here. but i also hate jackets, so i dont really wear them anywhere, even in NY.
its a big school, so you wont recognise everyone always, but its small enough that when you walk around campus therell be plenty of people you know. gossip only travels through your circle of friends, and then through facebook (aka change in relationship status). i suppose thats all i have to say
