Hi Upperclassmen,

I have a quick question.. what social science would benefit me the most (good info, average-light workload). I only need three semester hours and I have a list of options...

-Anthropology 325,305,307,309L,316L,318L
-Economics 304K
-Geography 305 306c 307c 308 309 312 319
-Linguistics 306, 312
-Psychology 301
-Sociology 302 308 308c 308d 309 313k 318 319

Also, what does the Letter after the number mean? (L, K, C)
Thanks

economics would be REALLY hard if you are just taking it for the social science credit. unless you like it. a lot.

soci 308 has a lot of different subjects like life and death decisions (loved that class. not a lot of work - just responses to questions about what we talked about in class and participation and three tests, but kinda really emotionally draining if you are into things like that.), and capital punishment and whatnot.

intro psych and socio have a lot of reading but it depends on the prof. i remember there is one socio in fall 2009 where you have to read 5 books and others where they only use the textbook. and some of them you can really tell which have an easier workload by the descriptions (if they are up to date).

go here: [College of Liberal Arts: Majors - Majors](http://www.utexas.edu/cola/majors/majors/)

then go to the different departments for the classes you are interested in, click on course description and most of them will tell you what assignments are required and stuff. its really helpful. some of them say if there are group projects and sometimes even what the project actually is and so on and so forth.

What about courses in natural science? i will be an advertising major.
anthropology (ANT) 301, 304
Biology, 301c 305e 305f 406d 307d 309d 309f
CS 302;307
grg 301c 301k 304e …hmm maybe geography would benefit me the most.

about the letters

For calculus, you can take the first 1.5 years as three semesters in order, with the semesters labeled something like 408K, 408L, and 408M, or as two semesters in order, 408C and 408D, so I think the letters (L,K,C) mean it is part of a sequence of classes that naturally follow each other. If GRG works like calculus, GRG 301C would cover more than 301K.

You might want to ask your advisor for a list of alternative natural science courses like history, psych, philosophy, etc that can be counted towards nat sci credit if you don’t really want to take geo.

I know there is a list for liberal arts. It’s not online, my advisor gave it to me. I’m not sure if the communications college uses the same ones for credit though but it doesnt hurt to ask if you are not into geography.
