Should we as individuals trust society? If we don't trust society should we trust ourselves? After all, where else is our intellect that we utilize to formulate opinions and perceptions derived from? Each individual is a part of society itself, attributing a specific aspect to that society. How can our opinions be any more valid than those of someone else's?

Wow…Well, this is intellectual.

My opinion is that babies come from flying saucers that spout out of the mouths of flying pigs. Your opinion is, well, the right way. I would say your opinion is more valid.

We are right relative to ourselves and wrong relative to others.

I think I read something by John Stuart Mill a couple of weeks ago, and he would probably argue that an individual’s opinion is no more valid than the opinion of someone else. Nor is the perception of the majority more valid than a single person’s view, and vice versa.

What a person’s opinion is that everyone in the world should die but himself/herself? What if they though cold-blooded murdering of others was right? What if they believed the Holocaust was good for the world? and etc…so what do you mean by “valid.” Yes, it’s another opinion, but I don’t buy into the relativism thing…

By the way, society doesn’t care about this thread.

I wasn’t really paying attention because his writing bored me, but I think his meaning of “valid” was that no one has a right to suppress an individual’s rights/beliefs/life.

So if a person thought that murder was good for the world, then his beliefs are actually invading the life/rights of other people. So therefore, his opinion is not valid in the eyes of society and he has no right to exercise his views.

Oh, look: My posts don’t matter in this society we have created. (This very thread.)

Moderately OT:
What always gets me giggling like a manic gorilla, is when people refer to society as if they’re not apart of it:
e.g. “society is too closed-minded and won’t let me wear my peanutbutter slippers in the snow.”

^ They’re delusional in their spheres.

Too philosophical for someone like me to answer.

What does “OT” stand for?

I thought that I addressed that.

Society is sort of vague. I think everyone can agree on that…

What is the purpose of proving yourself? You’re only greedy in your motives…

Are you referring to me?

I’m not trying to “prove” myself of anything lol

I just thought that I’d make a thread in this forum.

^Who are you talking to…or is that a general “you?”

OT = Off Topic.
And I’ll be honest, I didn’t read any of that. You’ve overestimated my attention span.

You are greedy in the fact that you have a defined motive. You question upon this query only to have someone, in fact, sympathize with your opinion.

You do not ask of our opinion for our sakes, but rather for yours so you can have the inner-feeling of corrected-ness.

You are a fun guy, nothing.

^ Exactly what do you mean? Please draw the details for I haven’t even the slightest clue of what the characteristics of a “good guy” truly are.
