Society's expectations are too high!

^Or rather, every student in Florida is given an awesome opportunity to help pay for some of their college tuition. If they did that here I would have done 75 hrs. That’s a pretty good savings.

Offering money to someone (or everyone) in return fo services not “forcing” anyone to do anything. That is the basis of our society.

Do you thnk you are entitled to “money for nothing”?

Please feel free to forgo the service and its attendant rewards.

Useing the time to earn a higher GPA might pay off in terms of other scholarship opportunities.

Plattsburgh, I said MOST people. There is an exception to every rule. And I am truly sorry that helping others makes you feel bad, that is unfortunate.

Good thing your parents didn’t (don’t) think that way…

“Plattsburgh, I said MOST people. There is an exception to every rule. And I am truly sorry that helping others makes you feel bad, that is unfortunate.”

seems pretty clear that his post was a joke

That it was, friend. That it was.

But most people are hypersensitive, though 'm sure there’s an exception somewhere. But that person is probably hiding on page 23 with Waldo.

stevenseagal is a loser who doesn’t want to change the world :]

Low self-esteem would not vanish because people judge what they have and what they do based on the situations of other people. Therefore focusing oneself would just lead to a lot of time wasted on trying to make yourself as good as “everybody” else when “everybody else” may only be 0.25% of the population. We should help others because our names won’t be remembered, and if they are no one will truly know who we were, and the only impact we can leave behind is our actions.

Another one of these threads, =]. I do community service bc my school requires it. 130 hours to graduate!

I don’t do much community service. I’m completely anti-organization. When my grandparents were dying in the hospital, nobody volunteered their time to them. No cancer organization offered to help with anything. If nobody did anything for my grandparents, I’m not doing anything for anybody else’s grandparents.

The little service I do is focused on kids and fellow classmates, and that’s because I had lots of opportunities. For example, until I was 14, I participated in literacy and library programs. So now, I try to give back so others can have the same opportunities I had.

Yes, because this completely makes sense. You don’t like what other people do (or didn’t do) so you’ll perpetuate the same thing.

^^ An eye for an eye

My eyes have been hurting all day. I wish I could find my glasses and ditch these contacts for awhile.

How can society’s expectations be too high or too low?

They are completely irrelevant if you have your own expectations for yourself. I used to ***** all the time about how society pressured us into making us to stuff that we don’t want to, like community service. But then I realized that was immature, because society can’t actually pressure us, it can’t physically or mentally make you feel compelled to do anything or meet any expectations, if you have your own expectations and goals.

There’s not much you can do.
Stop posting these BS threads on CC.

These are not “BS threads.” I’m only saying what people are too scared/ignorant to say

Who is in society exactly? It seems like “society” is regularly blamed for things but people tend to separate themselves from society and point fingers at it.

So is anyone actually in society? Or is it just an evil entity set on world destruction? Because I was kind of hoping for that role.

i agree with you, steven. indeed their expectations are too high…it drains the life outta me. i agree being a good person is important but i mean come on…does society really think everyone’s doing all these community hours for the well being of others…?

Given your ignorance of the definition of altruism, perhaps you are only saying what most people are too smart/intelligent to say.

^^ Lol, I’ll admit I made a pretty big mistake with my definition of altruism. Funny thing is, my AP Bio teacher told me the definition that I gave earlier, but I looked it up online and I admit my mistake.
However, if someone is too “smart” to say it, it’s only because they know the consequences of saying the truth and they realize that they can not live with them
