I'm a rising senior, beginning to think about what I may like to write my college application essays on. I've read in various locations on these boards about "hooks" that really seem to help an applicant out, in some cases. The most obvious hooks would be concerning URM status, legacies, etc. I have none of those, unfortunately.
But I was considering addressing a semi-hook in my essays, and that is low socioeconomic status. (Or is this a real hook? It's a confusing theme to me.)

Would it be wrong to mention/hint at one's low socioeconomic status in the college essays? For need-blind admissions schools, where else would be an opportune spot to point this out to your advantage?
Have any of you described your socioeconomic status via your essays?

Any input is appreciated.

Gah, sorry I didn't realize there is a 'College Essays' forum. This should go there. Wow, you guys really do have every topic covered!
