Sociology 1

Has anyone taken Sociology 1 and know if Discussions are flexible? In other words, are they helpful/required and will it matter if I show up to another one I am not enrolled in? Thanks.

they grade you on participation, so ask your TAs.

For Soc 1, I'm pretty sure the discussions will really be discussions (ie, the circulation of ideas in an interactive setting), where you will be graded on your participation. So most likely you will need to show up in the one you are enrolled in. But ask your TAs to be sure.

totally dependent on your TAs irt how flexible they are with your attending different sections . material should be rote memorization at best. nothing special . or difficult.

How are readings by the way? I see that there is a reader and other books ... I'm not used to reading books.

i just took sociology 1 this quarter. discussions were 10% of grade, based on attendance only. readings were about 30 pages or so a week from a course reader. it was by far the easiest GE i've taken.

of course, these kinds of things will vary between teachers. i had mark jepson.
