Sociology Majors @ CAL

Since Decision Day is just around the corner, I wanted to know how many here applied as Sociology Majors and what your stats are.

And do you think Sociology is better studied at UCLA or Berkeley?

Anyway, I'll start with mine.

GPA: 3.8
Pre-Reqs: All but one. (Evaluation of Evidence was not offered at my CC or anywhere near me)
Pre-Req GPA: 4.0
E.C.: Very Good
Essay: Very Good
UCLA Admit: Yes

What do you guys think?

Good thing I got into UCSD and UCD for Sociology because I don't think I'd get in for LA or Berkeley. I think Berkeley is ranked higher than UCLA for Sociology and most other social sciences.

GPA: 3.3
Pre-Reqs: All but one
Pre-Req GPA: 3.5
EC: None
Essay: Moderate
UCLA Admit: Pending

I think I don't match up.

I don't know my Pre-req GPA but I think my UC GPA is 3.5-3.8. I've been admitted into every UC except Cal as Pre-sociology. I went to Cal Day and bought a hoodie so I better get in >:|

Yeah let's hope so!

I went to Bank of America today and they were offering free checking on the condition that you get one of their "college-designed" debit cards.

I chose a CAL one, so hopefully I can use it up there, otherwise I'm going to have to get another one.

Isn't it already free to open a checking account at BoA?

GPA (Transfer): 3.57
Pre-Reqs: All, except evaluation of evidence - not offered at my CC
EC: Volunteered as Mentor, marketing associate for non-profit photo book. High school stuff (paper, tutor, vocational work experience program), 8+ years work experience in surety business. I will have 2 AA's (one photo and one general ed) by the time of transfer
Essay: Moderate
UCLA Admit: Didn't appy

I'm curious to see what happens. My GPA is OK, but I hope I stand out in my experience/other qualities...

Good luck to everyone else on here. Since there are only a few of us on the board, I send my best to you all.

It is but it was a special type of checking account called "Prima."

Not that I know anything about checking accounts. But with banks being the current topic, I would say Wamu >>>>> B of A.

I wanna get rid of my B of A account, but I'm too lazy. I wish I never left Wamu.

GPA: 3.9
Pre-Reqs: All but one. (Evaluation of Evidence not offered at my CSU)
Pre-Reqs: A in Intro to Soc, A- in Statistics
E.C.: Decent, includes overseas and local volunteering.
Essay: Good, not great.
UCLA Admit: Didn't apply. Dream school is USC; applied for Comm there, plan to double major with soc wherever I get accepted if possible.

I'm coming from a CSU - that's my biggest concern. Even with the good GPA I know my chances of getting accepted are FAR lower than CCC students. I've pegged my chances of getting in at < 20%.

Accepted into UCSD and UCSC. Will probably go to SD if all else fails.

all quite useless.
right dane? kekeke.
go STAND!!!

Berkeley's Sociology department is ranked in the top 3 of the nation... we have a few Nobel Laureates on the faculty that teaches at Cal.. I'd say a better program all around.

G.P.A.:3.94
Pre-reqs-4.0 all incl. eval. of evidence.
EC's:good
Essays:good
UCLA admit: Yes

All of my stuff is good, I'm still really worried though, because of the competiveness of the Social Science Division, since there are other people with higher G.P.A.'s in other majors.

mapletree, you still have a really good chance because of that statistics grade...they are really leery about people taking the statistics prereq in the Spring before transfer & since you already have an excellent grade on that particular prereq, you have a decent shot.....
for the rest of you....do not worry about the evaluation of evidence prereq, most CCC don't offer it and its a huge class once you get accepted here, like 250 students at once so its not an issue for Berkeley at all.

Luvtoolearn, or anyone else who would be so kind to answer:

I'll say first of all that I am not a Sociology major. But I am a Social Sciences major (Psych).
Stats is a prereq for UCB and UCLA for me.

I took it this past winter. Since winter grades came out after the deadline to report fall grades, I wasn't able to report them. Do you think they will look at my winter grades (do they even do that?) to help determine their decision? I received an A, so I really hope they somehow look at the grades.

I'm really nervous because I am currently taking 3 Berkeley prereqs (out of 7) this Spring. That leaves 4 that I have already taken prior to Spring. Since I took one of those 4 during the Winter, it really only gives UCB three classes to calculate my Major GPA. Alhough I am expecting rejection, I can't help but have a little hope...

Thanks

Luvtoolearn - You have no idea how happy I am to hear that. :)

Bump, bump. Who got accepted and rejected? I want to know who I may potentially be taking classes with in the fall.

I got in~!

Woohoo! Sociology @ CAL!!!

Nice!! Congrats!

good job dane!!

me too :)

now i am in agony from making a choice between sociology@CAL or communications@UCLA
