Are there any that applied to Sociology? I feel like I can’t find much about SLO’s soc program. How big/ small is it?!? Can somebody answer it?

I’m not a sociology major, but I took a few sociology classes. I think the department is pretty small, as are most liberal arts departments here.

Thanks! Did you enjoy your classes? Do you have any idea what the general reputation of their soc or poli sci programs are like?

Also, I’ve been meaning to ask, but is there a Soc building? Or a Social Science building by any chance? When I went to visit CP SLO last time I found a high amount of engineering buildings, but not one Soc/ social science building.

Naw there’s no sociology building (or any building with classrooms/labs decided to any liberal arts major - except for GRC and kinda English- at Cal Poly). They usually just put liberal arts classes in any rooms that are open. This may be in the business or even engineering buildings, wherever there is room. What you noticed about there being a high number of engineering buildings is definitely true. It’s the school’s focus, plus those majors usually require more lab space and stuff. And I think they might have more money - not sure though.

The sociology classes I took were not bad. Learned some interesting stuff. The teachers were pretty liberal, but they were open to different viewpoints. The classes themselves weren’t too much work. I’m not sure what the reputation of their sociology program is, but poli-sci has a decent rep. Some people get really cool internships in D.C.
