i got an email a couple of day ago from i think it was the softball coach asking me if i was interested in playing at Haverford (provided i get in). I have been playing softball for a long time and i love it, but i wasnt sure about whether i wanted to continue to lay at a varsity level (i know it is only D3, but varsity is a comitment no matter what level), or just play IM or cub level. I was wondering if anyone out there coud give me some input about softball specifically at haverford, or the comitment of a D3 varsity sport in general (i know a lot of time is devoted to traveling to other collges for games) any help is welcome. thanks

I wouldn't call myself an expert on this subject, but i am also interested in playing softball at haverford. I was invited by the coach (Jen Ward she's the head coach) to stay over for a few nights and from that i got a basic idea of the players' schedule. They start practice around 4 and go till about 6 from what i remember and then head off to dinner. I do not remember if they had any fall tournaments however. During the fall, the coach is apparently only supposed to meet with the players for i believe 8 weeks. During then, they practice outdoors on the softball field and work out in the athletic center. If you want he season schedule, you can check it out on the site, but i dont believe that it's too strenuous.

Hope that helps!

From what I understand in speaking to a current student recently, the softball team had a remarkable year in 2006.

You may want to ask the coach to forward you some names/e-mails of current players who can answer your questions.

areiku: i'm rooting for you. i hope RD is better for you.

Thanks a bunch

There's no club softball here, and IM softball leaves much to be desired if you played softball seriously in high school from what i understand. The team is awesome, though, and they did have a great year last year. Varsity sports are a big time commitment, but definitely worth it.

thanks HC Alum! Praying for that acceptance letter come April
